OcalaFlorida Pillar of the Community United States 2824 Posts	Posted 09/26/2014 5:22 pm 1952 Proof Superbird Washington quarter Variety I got this one this week for a nice deal maybe because it was slabbed NGC PF66 but not with variety on the label and getting a good picture of it is hard. very happy to add this to my Washington quarter collection engraved S in chest I dont think it is the ddo/red tail feather one. OcalaFlorida Pillar of the Community United States 2824 Posts	Posted 09/26/2014 9:39 pm the superman tv show was very popular at the time and it is believed a mint work engraved it on the chest instead of the normal S mint mark as support for the show which he was a avid fan. There is a DDO with engraved feather tails also with the S worn out more that one is worth alot more.... Report this Post to the Staff

It looks more to me like something, a pice of lint, string, or even a metal shaving, was on the die blanj when it was was hubbed. A "strikethrough" during the hubbing and it was impressed into the die blank. Report this Post to the Staff
Buddy Rest in Peace United States 7075 Posts	Posted 09/29/2014 9:34 pm I said I was going to hunt for one of those at the next coin show I went to....and I did....and I told my husband to search for one, too. At a show on Sunday, I ran into two friends from my local club and they each had one for sale.... I got them both. I want to thank OcalaFlorida and Coop for posting such excellent photos. The surfaces on those coins look pock marked and I think I would have passed on purchasing the coins without having seen the photos posted here. Report this Post to the Staff
