Poll Question
Given dismissal success of the small $1 coins, what classic series would you prefer if US Mint would decide to bring back classic designed dollar ?

No SBA in the choices? But it's such a beauty of a design and was just SOOOO popular in its day! :)

I voted for the Flowing Hair but there's several of the older dollar coins I'd be happy to see come back. Draped Bust, Seated, Trade, Morgan.

I don't think the dismal failure of small $1 coins is due to current design trends; other much more dominant factors are influencing the lack of acceptance of them. Despite the fact that CCF members are interested in the various aspects of coin collecting, including design, I think that most of the general Public would accept ANY reasonable design, classic OR modern, without thinking too much about it. MY preference? Morgan dollar!

Do you even have to ask which one received my vote? As always it must be said... The only thing preventing the circulation of a one dollar coin is the continued existence of the one dollar note.

I think I know who the one vote (so far) is for the Ike dollar! I voted Peace dollar. There's a hint of art deco influence in the design (from my perspective anyway), and I love all things art deco. Even if a clad coin, it's my favorite large dollar design. On a side thought, what about the 1977 Gasparro design (originally conceived for what would become the SBA) on a large dollar?

Peace dollar all day long! Something about that coin that captivates me when I see one... worn or pristine, I love them all.

For my money (heh), the only appropriate thing is to make the ASE a circulating issue.

I'm not American but I would like to see a Peace dollar circulating. The design is very nice, it's just too bad they weren't struck too well.

I voted for Morgan dollars. I truly think it is a beautiful design, Obverse and Reverse.

The Peace dollar, but updated to give the girl some finer, sharper detail.

I believe, though, that as pretty as these designs are, they would look a lot different struck in clad coinage vs. the original silver. I think I read here that silver is more malleable, so that when the coin is struck, you get more definition in the features. Striking in clad gives you less. (Is that correct? Anybody? Anybody?)

That would be part of it. I think the bigger problem would be their being minted in a lower relief. Look at an early Kennedy half dollar compared to more recent ones.
