Coinstar machines kick out plenty of normal, modern coins. My best example of this, and I know it sounds like a lie, but I promise it isn't, is that I once found over $5 in normal clad dimes in a reject slot. Consider it good luck when the normal coin kicked out is collectible or otherwise fun.

The coin features the Pre-Socratic philosopher Democritus.

1922 Peace dollar yesterday. Coin machine reject, customer wasn't interested in it. Lots of brown toning which dipped off easily to reveal absolutely beautiful, unbroken luster. I've gotten an ASE (1995) and Canadian silver dollar (1964) from circulation, but never a Morgan or Peace until now.

One rarely sees one of those in circulation.

Several days ago a relative found what would have been an uncirculated 1958 Wheat penny if it had not been found in change. (It was very lustrous and had no problems, as if it had come from an uncirculated roll) Previously, the best coin I had found in circulation was a circulated 50s wheat.
