Quote: My girlfriend for example got a 10 heller (Austra) from 1908 as change a year or two ago. "Eem, sorry, but this hasn't been used for about 100 years." It is now residing in my 'Various' collection. A regular coin with funny story. Agreed. Very nice!

Scored a 1964 Canadian quarter yesterday. When I saw the Gillick bust of Elizabeth II, I knew I was looking at silver, regardless of the year. Now the only old Canadian silver I have yet to encounter from circulation in the US is their half.

I think that half dollar is going to be hard to find. But that quarter is a pretty nice find -- so enjoy!

Yeah, best of luck with the 50 cent coin in circulation in the US. I've only got 1 once in the Toronto area and it was in change from the entrance fee at a coin show. $4.50 to get in, with a 50 cent coin going to anyone that paid with a $5 bill. I thought it was a cool idea. Aside from that, or the like, I've never seen one in circulation. With that being said, until a few years ago, the Toronto Sun newspaper boxes accepted them and listed them as a form of payment next to the coin slot. I think I'd be just as likely getting an American $2 bill in change here as someone getting a 50 cent in the states.

True. But I scored a 1964 silver dollar from circulation here in the US about 3 years ago, so stranger things have happened. However I was also looking through the junk Canadian box at the LCS about a week ago. He had everything in there, both silver and not. But no halves. Zero.

Also just got a series 1976 two dollar bill star birthday note from the bank, serial number: C00177314* (two out of four two dollar bills were series 1976)

Recently I found a 1918 in G-VG in my pocket change. It's the first Wheatie I've found in a long time and a 1918 to boot!

Quote: Now the only old Canadian silver I have yet to encounter from circulation in the US is their half. My grandfather and I used to go to the banks in Canada in the late 60s and 70s and ask for half dollars. More than once we got the reply from the tellers that Canada did not make half dollars. Often, if they knew they existed, they would say they had never seen one. Finding one in circulation may be akin to finding a horsefeather pillow.
