Quote: Should I sell some of my set to recoup the initial capital outlay or just hold on tight? May I suggest that if you can recoup your money now, and still have sets left over for future speculation, that you recoup your costs now. I am not a speculator myself, so take my opinion with a grain of salt... I just think that it's best to cover your costs while it's a sure thing. Prices probably aren't going down, but you never know, and stagnation is a possibility. Get your money back out now, and any gains in the future are just gravy. This assumes that you have enough sets to pay yourself back AND still have sets left over to cash in later when the prices go up. Just my .02... Good luck!

If he only has 2 sets he would make his money back and maybe even see a profit on top of that.5 sets would only need 2 sets to be sold and the remaining three would be "free" sets..the more the merrier Full disclosure: I have 50 sets (30 graded) and have sold zero...I have given a few as gifts but have not sold any

I contacted a dealer (more or less for fun) to see if they are interested in buying this set and was told they have received offers for literally hundreds of them over the last week alone and that they have been passing on all of them. Doesn't this tell us something? If dealers don't want to deal with these I can only assume they don't think it has long-term potential. To counteract that, ebay prices have been steady above $40+ for the last two months - no real direction either way. I guess time (& the US Mint) will tell which way this set will go. I honestly don't think there are 50k die-hard Sac collectors out there. But that's just my reading of the current market situation.

Thanks ratio & Foxwood. Btw, Foxwoods: Which TPG did you use for this and what was the statistic? I don't want to spend $20/coin to get it grade though. Thanks for the info.

I have 4 sets... all this talk has me thinking that perhaps I'll sell a pair to generate some cash for buying other sets. Are they still going for $30-$40 in OGP?

My take is that people are still holding their breath waiting for the mint to change the status from " out of stock " to "sold out "
Would it be beyond the mint to recognize the profit popularity of this set and extend the mintage ?

If the means and materials were readily available, then yes. But it's highly unlikely that the mint is stockpiling more OGP (not to mention the special $1 coins) for this.
It no doubt takes them many months to get a batch of OGP ready so I think it would definitely be beyond the Mint at this point.

The US Mint clearly stated a product limit of 50k but no mintage limit. If they were to change the product limit, they would have to make that public first in the federal register (I think). But since there is no mintage limit, they could make the coins available in rolls if they wanted to. If they were to do this, these sets would take a nose-dive for sure.
This really annoys me about the US Mint - the lack of transparency. For months, this set has been shown as "out of stock" although the weekly sales report shows that all 50k were sold. The only explanation would be (as mentioned before) that payments for several orders could not be verified and that the sets were sold but orders could not be filled because of lack of payment. But why does it take months?

May be this set is just on the back of their mind, NOT top priority?

Maybe ... they know what is the longest time they will get returns, or as mentioned funds not being approved.
So instead of opening sales back up .. stopping them .. opening again. They might of made a decision to just wait until a certain date.
Or as posted above .. might not be a top priority.

Some MS69 coins go for around $90-$100, MS68 coins go for around $70+/-, MS67 coins go below price of raw coin/set. I hope Foxwoods Man can give us the statistic of his submission, that would help some of us decide to grade OR not.

Woah, so a very high probability for these to get the 69 grade.... impressive.... or you are just very lucky.

I skewed my "luck" a bit. As mentioned I culled out 20 of the 50 that were not decent quality...and 3 more graded 68
So almost 50% were not 69 quality...(23/50)

That's still a high number at the top grade..... well, most modern, low production # coins tend to have higher quality. You did good regardless.
