I am getting excited about just what is in there . Now if MRS. N can just be convinced I could be persuaded to drop a few K on some nice red cents! She doesn't need a house anyways !!

This is the funniest marketing approach ever!!
Yes, it's like they're going out of their way to try to limit the number of buyers. Seems like a lot of smoke and mirrors, and I'm already bored. Nobody on this thread can post a single direct link to any article or information? If you're going to let the cat out of the bag, show us the cat.

KBB I wouldn't get bored this is pretty much the Canadian way on stuff like this . Low keyed for sure but I guess we just have to wait for the catalogue. From what I know (posted previously) and what I have heard there will be lots to choose from. I do not think they will want to limit the amount of buyers , quite the contrary. More interest, more money for the two auction firms.
@VICK I hardly think this will impact the market that much to the down side . It might just have the opposite effect! There was a huge Canadian sale in New York years ago where a fantastic hoard of better stuff was sold including hundreds of Gem mint state 1947 Dot nickels. Today that stuff is all dispersed and sells today for multiples of what we paid then ! This Landon sale represents an opportunity if you are far sighted and have some money to spend.

Pacificoin, all I can do as a casual observer is contrast it with the Saddle Ridge Hoard, which was tightly controlled and slick, in my opinion. Sure, it's a different animal with gold found in the ground and all that, but early on we knew there were multiple (13?) finest known examples, and the years and denominations on some of them, and very soon there were photos of coins, and there was an intriguing story for all to see. To this day, we don't know the identity of the seller. That's how tightly orchestrated it was. Sure, 10% of the coins remain unsold on Amazon, and they are wildly overpriced, but that means 90% of them sold at those prices, which seems like a huge success (i.e. tens of millions). Contrast that with this Landon collection, where word leaks out and we've got diddly-squat to go on. But I'm guessing they're doing the best they can with what they've got, and a million dollars spread over several thousand coins tells me it's just not all that inspiring (to me). In the end, the remains of the Saddle Ridge thing aren't all that inspiring either from a value perspective. So, I don't know, it is what it is. If it were me, I'd make sure there was something interesting to the story, and make that story widely available. So far it just seems like a whole lot of late 1800s large cents readily available for a couple hundred bucks, and I just go "eh, whatever". Tell the guy's story. Put it where anybody can read it for free. Give us something to get interested in.

UPDATE Just received updated information from the auction company on the Landon Hoard sale being held the same week as the February 2015 Torex coin show in Toronto. Over 900 lots of Coins and Tokens including as promised earlier in this thread the FINEST known 1893 Round Top 3 Ten cents. Looks like the info I posted earlier from my source was indeed factual.

The Chuck Moore auction that contains the Landon Hoard, has nothing to do with the Torex coin show and auction. Same weekend, same city... that is it.

Yes - Chuck Moore has partnered with Steven Bromberg for well over a year now. In fact you can now walk into Canadian Coin and Currency, and consign an item for future Chuck Moore auctions.

The same relationship exists with Metro Coin and Banknote (Jared Stapleton) and Geoffery Bell Auctions. You can literally walk into Jared's shop anytime, and consign an item to an upcoming Bell auction.

I see these as good symbiotic relationships. I don't know the gory details, but I imagine that sellers of a good collection can decide that if they think the dealer's offer is unfair, they would be welcome to consign their items to auction.

There will be more of this joint collaboration in the future as it just gets far too expensive trying to do it all by oneself. Lots of us in the business partner up in many different ways. It is all part of the comraderie of the business I guess. I always piggy back ICCS subs for my clients as an example.
Roger to you and all on the forum the very best of the season! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. To my Jewish friends Happy Hanukkah. May all be blessed in 2015.!

The first show I ever went to ... was the RCNA when it was here in Winnipeg.... I had the GREAT pleasure of meeting Jarred... some of the notes he showed me were absolutely fantastic...

Shortly after that I was talking to another dealer about his coins .. and he had just picked up a coin from another dealer.... so I started to inquire about how well many of the dealers knew each other etc. and he was kind enough to say that there are many dealers that will buy/sell/trade with each other at whole sale prices to help move their product...

Personally I think that's a GREAT thing! ... On a side note I was SO overwhelmed with the show and had so many questions I spent the 1.5 hrs I had talking with dealers and soaking up so much information.. It WAS GREAT!

ON a side note.. I was just e-mailed a "sign up" notice to get an electronic version of the catalog for the landon collection...

Ive been an avid Canadian Large Cent ICCS graded Coin Collector for the past 40 years and recently became a Member of this great Coin Forum.I have been following the progress on this recently surfaced Hoard with ears wide open. The Canadian Legacy II sale (Charles Moore) will hold the Landon Collection. I just heard a few unique Landon Canadian Large Cent Lots will include an ICCS 1900 MS66! (not the 1900H) and a Gem 1859 9/8 ICCS MS65. Also included in the Landon Sale is 1902 ICCS "MS67" Canadian Large Cent.

Cheers
Mike
