This caught my eye.

There is some metal folded over the reverse at about 8 o'clock.

I mostly think it's damaged (the coin is quite worn) but I seem to remember seeing something that looked like this before and I can't find anything like it now, so it's driving me nuts.

Any and all help will be appreciated.

Is this sort of thing always damage or are there errors that resemble this? I think I've been using the wrong search terms or something because I can't find anything like it.....and yet I remember seeing something similar sometime during the past year.
Rest in Peace

Hard to say it if is damage or a fin that flattened during circulation. We may never know for sure.

Okay, thanks a lot guys. It was driving me nuts.

The coin has certainly seen wear and damage but it didn't seem sufficient for that little bit of scalloped metal to show up so far into the reverse. But if it got flattened, I suppose that would explain it.

Thanks for taking the time to help.

I am new to this so questioning you experts out there, it looks like the coin is off center, like one edge is larger than the other edge. What is that?

When it is on one side it is called a MAD,misaligned die. If it is on both sides it is an off center strike. It can also be a MAD on both sides.

Yep. John1 is correct. The obverse shows a Misaligned Die. Misaligned Dies are pretty common. And to answer the OP's question, that looks like damage to me.

Excluding the OP's fold over area in question. I agree with you and John1 pointing out if both sides are affected, it appears to be a bit off center.

Note: other factors can also resemble this as well like wide collars issues for example. If you have an example to share, please post in a new topic. Thanks, Doug.

The feature on the reverse looks like it might be a struck in rim burr.
