Important a recent coin hobbyist, don't have a specific special coin yet, but for now I'm looking for: (any error or rare to find coins) 1909 nickel, Indian Head cents, 1955 dd, 1944 steel penny, and 1990 no mint mark. I am not, however, looking to buy this coins. this is only a hobby of mine and I get a kick out of searching in circulating coins. I love doing the research and holding on to this rare finds :) maybe one day in the future I can do some serious cash in. |

I'm personally not into the rarities one might find in circulation, but as an admitted variety freak I can certainly grok the love for the practice.  Of course I have Holy Grails. The thrill is in the hunt. There are many, and they're only fun if you cherrypick them. A certain couple of Bust Half overdates. Two or three 1878-P VAMs, and the One To Rule Them All: the second 1921-D VAM-1X. It's out there.  I know it's possible. I've been lucky enough to have been part of the discovery of a really important new VAM; I know the lightning can strike. Never lose hope. |

1916 Mercury dime Pattern. I could of swear I saw one years ago, but didn't make that purchase. It was in a regular dealer album in the show. |

All surviving ones are usually in low grades with one at XF condition? Reading from David Lange book, if my memory serves me right. It was stolen and used publicly.

Though the odds are not in my favor, there is a (rare) chance to get bit by one of the following. 1) Canadian 1973 large bust quarter 2) USA 1998-S Matte Proof Kennedy half dollar3) the usual USA Lincoln cents (1909-S VDB, 1909-S, 1914-D, 1924-D, and 1931-S) 4) Canadian 2006-P non-magnetic cent I'll keep dreaming for good luck to smack me some day!! |

There are a few 16 Patterns. J-1983 and J-1984 of those don't have Weinman insignia and J-1984 are closer to the business strikes, but the reverse have slight differences. I can only dream!

I continue to look for rare Capped Bust Halves; 1830 large letters 1824 O-102 is possible 1817/4 is nearly impossible but I look every day And on and on. 1942/1 Mercury dimes aren't super rare though I've looked for years and have yet to cherry pic one. Any of the normally poorly struck Lincoln cents found with a good strike are a gas to find. I think I enjoy the hunt more than ownership. Edited by noD
