the front of the coin is not damaged nor is the rim altered.... it is 3.34 grams and my only guess is a major crack

I can't imagine damage that serious not showing on the obverse one way or another. So, if it isn't damage the only thing I can think of is a planchet lamination that broke off during circulation and further circulation dulled the edges. Thing is, though, if this coin is post-1864 it's too heavy, not too light.

it's a 1892, and that had me thinking double planchet?

Maybe a strikethrough that left some of itself embedded in the coin? It'd have to be something heavier than copper, though.

the part that keeps me woundering is that the coin shows no signs of damage (besides crack) but is thicker on one side then the other

Really need to see a better picture. What bothers me is I believe I see the remains of the E of ONE and the N of CENT in the bottom of the depression. That would not occur with a strike through, and if it isn't a strike through then it would mean the coin was normally struck before the depression occurred. In other words PSD. I would also like to see pictures of the obverse.

So I could be nuts on this lol but I just found a Mercury dime on the same forum with a laminate error that looks very close to this coin.... I then googled like errors and found a Jefferson that looks very close (very close) to this coin, even the near same rim markings on all three coins... Let me know what you think ple ASE

Looks more like a damaged coin to me.The reverse looks like something has struck the coin other than the die.The rim has been flattened and the obverse looks distorted like something was trying to push through. Post Strike Damage. Just a damaged coin

I thank you for your input but wouldask why the rim doesn't have raised metal out up in ext.... I understnd the devices are faintly in the struck spot, but wouldnt impact or cremping of some sort effect the obverse or atlest push metal in or to the side

one more thing, the mark on the back is jagged and I for one cant think of ny object tht would mke the impression. Nor could I find anything online other then plnchet errors or laminate errors that come close to looking like it
