I had a good day at work today. The till gave up 3 items today. First I found a 2001 Federation $5 note, although not in very good condition. Then a 1980 Double Bar variety 50 cent. Best of all I found a 2004 20 cent, I think you call it a large head (the one with the writing close to the rim), this is the first one of those I have seen. Sort of makes it worthwhile having to work on a Sunday. LOL Steve

Good finds Steve. If you get more than you can handle, whip a few across to the Sunshine State. Will get a good home, promise. regards,

Tiddyathome, I don't there is much of anything circulating in this series anymore, you hardly ever see one now. Muckeye, not a problem, mate. Steve

I have never found a 2004 big head variety Need to hunt it harder I guess. Was this only found in mintsets as I gather?

No, the large head 04 was also found in the circulating coinage. Only problem though; not much Australian coinage circulates in Texas. ^^;; I'm doing my best to clean my dealer out of his Aussie coinage so I can start looking for varieties (not that I have much of a clue on them). Yesterday I think I managed about $20.00 in five cents (including 2 1972s!), ten cents, and a few scarce Twenty Cents. I must be doing a good job of it, normally there's a Roo dollar or two in the mix.

There were an estimated 400,000 of the "large head" 2004 20¢ that went into circulation. I found my fifth one last week. ElleKitty, you're doing very well to find 2 x 1972 5¢ in one hit. Congrats, excellent hunting!

Ellekitty,That's not fair. I've been looking for a 1972 5c for years and can't find one in ciculation, but you find two in Texas. I noticed you are looking for a 1978 5c, I'll have to see if I can find one of those and we can swap. Steve

Triggersmob- I think the fact that they were in Texas is possibly why they were findable. All the ones in Australia have been hunted to extinction. The coin that didn't go directly into my collection really isn't in the best shape. It's got a big black spot right behind the Queen's head, and a long, shallow scratch running from the T in Australia to the 2 in 1972. It's got a couple of small gouges in it as well. Nothing that makes the coin utterly ugly, but definitely not a choice specimen. Besides, as much as I want that '78 to complete my 5 cent decimals, I think a '72 is worth a wee bit more. Maybe worth.. 70, 71, or a 74 Two Cent Piece ontop of the 78 fiver?

Ellekitty,You wouldn't believe this, but yesterday we were going through the Mother-in-laws old things (she passed away about 10 years ago) and I found a few coins, one of which is a 1974 2 cent. It's yours if you want it. Also found 1945 English half penny, 1968 English 10 pence, 1990 NZ dollar, 1978 NZ 5 cent and 1989 Thailand 10 Baht. The best part though was a bracelet with coins of the world on it.(it's a shame they have holes drilled in them). I will post pics of these later, but one is a 1875 Seated Liberty dime. Steve
