Not really looking to collect these one by one at this point, but I saw a nice looking set in average to nice circulated condition come up and was wondering what would be considered a "good" price - i.e., not necessarily a steal but a good value?

I would think for a nice average circulated album,it would be around $40-50. With nickels it all depends on the grade, so you really need to judge in what condition they are.

Agreed.
People on the forum here are putting together circulated sets for face
value. Plenty of threads here discussing it, but they are putting in
plenty of sweat equity looking for them. If you get them in a nice album,
that can cost 20-30 bux alone... So 40-50 would be fair enough. I have
seen them in folders or loose for a little less at our coin show.

I got a folder (as opposed to album) set, with every date but the silvers,
for $5 about 2 years ago. They were mostly AU/BU, and were in the folder so
long they had some GORGEOUS toning. Lots of blues and purples.

We're talking 38-64 here.
That early division of the Jeff set never really includes proofs in the conversation.

WOW your really asking a difficult question. So much depends on grades. For example the 50D alone could run from about $4 to $30 or more.
What you might want to try is get yourself a Red Book, sit down and add up all the prices for that set shown in that book. Then since those prices are always excessive, reduce your final total by about 25%. Just remember that the grades make all the differences.

I recently bought a almost complete set of Jefferson 38-2004 in a Dansco 8113 including proof-only issues for $102.50, most of the key dates plus War issues was in higher AU-MS condition, while some of the other common date ones was in VF-AU. The proofs were all MS with a few that probably grade above MS-65. The 55-P and the 57-P has FS. I think the 55-P will grade higher, so will be sending that one out to NGC later.

1945-D has a 45-P instead, so I got 2 45-P, now I need a 45-D.

The prices mentioned are all steals IMO. Personally I put a higher value on my time assembling that set than to let it go for under 20 bucks. I say under 20 because a new Dansco to put them runs around 30 on its own. Then the 50D and 11 War Nickels. Plus all theearly ones and all in higher circ grade ie VF or better. Pfffttttt

The Dansco album is missing the 1994 Matte finish nickel in the Jefferson coins and currency set, does anyone know if the Intercept album has that spot?

No album has either matte proof to my knowledge.
My album will soon though. I had Dansco make me a Jefferson album
on their largest spine, so I can fit 9 pages. I am going to get
blank nickel pages and expand mine to hold much more than the
standard 8113. I am going to add ALL the proofs, not just the
"proof only" years. I am going to add the 2 matte proofs, and
the 2005-2010 satins as well. Then the "reverse of" varieties
from 1939/1940 will round out everything.

It's all in the quality of the coins.
Seems to me that Jeffersons under about MS63/64 are very inexpensive.
The price jumps up fast above that point...

It can cost several hundred dollars to put together a nice 8113.
Many of the nickels in mine were broken out of slabs, all the
keys especially... I probably have $500 in my 8113.

As for the album itself, it's about $25 retail, but you know that
when you sell something on the second hand market, you never get
retail out of it. Luckily Danscos do seem to hold their value though.
2nd hand Danscos sell for 2/3 of retail quite often. Most items
in this world don't hold that kind of value post-retail.

I am pretty sure I have at least 500 in mine as well. I dont think a single coin would grade under 64 and most 66 or higher. But thats a different animal than what the OP was talking about.

As I said, I took him to mean Vaf and better coins. And a set like that would be listed in my store for more than 40 bucks. Melt value alone on the War Nickels is 10 bucks. So bare bones minimum, for junky War Nickels and a new Dansco is 35 bucks with NO profit. So clearly, given the OPs statement of nicer circulated coins, a fair price is goint be more towards the 70-80 range IMO

@ratio411,

That is heck of a project you're putting together, would like to see the result when done. I didn't know you can get Dansco to custom make you a special album.
