It intrigues me just how little interest in general there seems to be in British coinge on this side of the pond. Unless there's precious metal content or the condition is high MS, these are routinely shunted off to the side over here. Take for example this quintet of farthings I picked up today. Are they in outstanding shape? Hardly, but they're certainly decent enough, and I'd imagine that in the U.K. they don't typically sell for the equivalent of 5¢ apiece, which is what I paid. Or maybe they do, feel free to set me straight on this point. In any event, while my collection of British coins is extremely modest, it's going to continue to grow so long as I can still regularly find material like this at such a pittance. Colligo ergo sum

I understand your quandary. My 'fun' collection is a William III to Elisabeth II type set. I do not fret that the coins are high grade, they are mostly circulated and many have minor problems. It is a wonderful feeling to pay $18.50 for a 1697 sixpence. A serious British collector would consider all of your coins noncollectable. Just as I consider all but the key date circulated Washington quarters noncollectable. I find your coins quite wonderful. It is a serious challenge finding even relatively common coins on this side of the puddle. But the joy of getting a three hundred year old coin for less than the price of an ASE is hard to beat. Enjoy!

LuckyCuss - I think you did petty well there. I feel much the same when I pull an Indian Head cent or Buffalo nickel out of a junk bin in the UK. I've even had large cents for 5p or 10p in the past...

The farthings you have are not in the pricing books at the grades you have because they are deemed not collectible. The UK market would require these in minimum of UK ef.1929 and 33 in EF "£1 (retail) The 38 no price under unc

I would take every one I could get at .05 each. All day long. Nice haul!

The 1933, albeit brown and having no origianl luster, is actually solid AU from the standpoint of lack of wear, the 1938 is close to being the same, and the remaining three are in lesser condition.

The reason they are deemed 'not collectible' is that it is not worth the dealer's effort and time to sell them, with such a low numismatic value. That ia why you were able to find them in the junk bin at 5 cents each.
Nevertheless, at 5 cents each they are a bargain; and it is worth building a date set from junk bins if you can. However, therein lies the problem if you are an American collector:- it would be difficult to build a complete set of common date farthings over time from junk bins in America, more so from the reigns of Victoria, Edward V11, and George V.

5c each is a steal IMHO. The challenge now is to build a year set with them as the starting point. I'm sure there are many GB members here who would be happy to help you to accomplish this.

Here's another "five cents" farthing I picked up today at the same place where I got the other five last week. I'm not going to be posting future such acquisitions as I realize they're really not of all that much interest per se, but thought I could get away with just this one more.

At a few cents apiece, I'd buy just about all they had !
There is 'collectible', and then there is 'collectible'. Both are worth having.
