It's really sad that something like American currency has to become a polticial battleground... If there is a series of American President's and First Ladies, you shouldn't stop the series, because you have a political axe to grind. From the Coin World article: Quote: A longstanding debate within political circles and the numismatic community questioned whether Ronald Reagan would qualify under the act's provisions to have his portrait appear on a manganese-brass clad dollar coin and whether Mrs. Reagan's visage and achievements could be recognized in a First Spouse gold $10 coin design and companion brass medal.

Well, if they are doing a Ronald Reagan coin, I believe that, IF Jimmy Carter dies ANY time between the release of the Gerald Ford, and Ronald Reagan coin's issue, be it, Carter dies today, or if Carter dies ONE Day before the Reagan coin comes out, Carter SHOULD get his own coin as well. As long as he dies BEFORE the Reagan coin comes out. Nevermind that silly little "A President must be dead for "2 years" before he can be honored on a coin or banknote" law. If they are making an exception for Reagain, they can do the same for Carter. Just my $2.50 worth (in the form of a $2 bill and a half, of course)

Now they just have to create and release a 2016 Reagan Coin and Chronicles set.

I hope this comes to pass. I plan on purchasing a few rolls if I'm still above ground myself.

If they are making an exception for Reagain, they can do the same for Carter They aren't making an exception for Reagan. The wording of the authorizing law was ambiguous. Interpreted one way Reagan would have to be excluded (Presidents have to be honored in the order in which they served which wouldn't allow for skippig Carter), interpreted another way Reagan would be included (Program ends after all eligible presidents have been honored. Reagan is eligible so Carter could be skipped.) From 2005 until this week the official interpretation has been the first one. This week they changed to the second, but no exception to the law has been made. Now if Nancy makes it to 2016, she will be the sixth living person to have their portrait on a US coin.

Correct, the law was badly written and left the mint in a damned if they do and damned if they don't position.

Quote: Now they just have to create and release a 2016 Reagan Coin and Chronicles set. I would love to see a large dollar Reagan coin. The same size and clad composition of the Ike dollar would be excellent. Clad 'aint bad, but it's not a silver dollar. Sadly, I'm afraid the days of even a 40% silver circulated coin is gone...

Quote: I know he was on some stamps. The USPS issued a Forever stamp in 2011 to mark the centennial of Reagan's birthday. I purchased a sheet of them to use as postage from the online USPS stamp store. Other Reagan stamps were issued in 2006 and 2000.

Quote: What could they put in a 2016 Reagan Coin and Chronicles set? All I want is the proof golden dollar, a silver presidential medal, and a bronze presidential medal. Stamps are optional. The Teddy set only had the dollar with the two medals and I still love it. For the Eisenhower C&C set they could put a 2015 dated full size 90% silver Eisenhower dollar in there with the golden dollar and both medals. I would pay extra for that one.
