I have 29 coins that look like this. The coin is otherwise unremarkable.

Sheesh! I went to PREVIEW and I hit POST.

Anyway..... sorry for the tiny pics. I tired for an hour to get a decent photo optimized but they just kept getting smaller.

It sort of looks like a squiggly ding from one angle, but from another angle it looks like a bit got chipped off.

The puzzling thing - for me - is that I have 29 that look just like this one.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

It's a die crack. This seems to be a common place for them on shield cents.

And it's unsurprising you'd have a run of them from one roll. That die probably lasted long enough to strike hundreds if not thousands of them with the die crack.

Could you get the image of the designer initials a bit clearer and rotated horizontal? The glare might be making it look larger?

coop, I took more pics, all with the cent on white paper...which looks blue now...argh!

Clearly I have a lot to learn about using the tools I have available.

I hope you can see what you wanted to see. Thanks for looking.

I was wondering it the initials where wider?

I know it is not the same year, but a side by side might help you0 see if these devices are wider or not. Hard to tell from just one image?

Thanks for the photos, coop!

I re-examined my cents and I don't think that they are doubled. I see that it can be hard to tell from the photos, but in hand, I noticed that the lower horizontal line of the F appears more like the normal die than the doubled die.

Thanks again.

The side by sides help a lot. They are a little more work, but convincing when they are used.
