Recently I was given this Ike dollar that had a lot of PVC damage. This is the first time I have had a coin with this much PVC residue on it and thought it would be a good idea to take some pictures before and after an acetone bath to show how it would look. I did use a Q-tip to help get in the crevices rolling it across the surface... not rubbing. There may be a little PVC left but I think it looks a lot better.

What a poster child for the process. With your permission, I'd like to grab these for my teaching library of images I use often. Like 1916 SLQ's, 3-Legged Buffalo, thread topics which recur. Your Ike was both a prototypical "nasty" infection and an amazing recovery. You don't realize how bad the infection truly was until you see what was removed. It illustrates the point that PVC isn't always green.

It's also educational in terms of the danger posed by PVC contamination; it looks like there is quite a bit of permanent pitting :(

Since the coin was given to me in that condition I cannot confirm or deny the pitting is from the PVC but most likely is the cause.
