On the 2 I'm having trouble seeing the doubling. Are saying that you see doubling on the liberty as well? I can't really tell on the liberty because of it being blurry, but there could be. Maybe someone else with better eyes can chime in.

Machine doublin'. The 2 didn't have much, but the 'E' of the liberty showed some.

Is this better? It actually looks like a smaller 2 over a larger 2. A repunched MM? I mean a repunched date? Image: cent1962a.jpg75.6 KB

Yea, now I see what you're seeing on the '2'. Think that one's going to be a worn die, but not sure.
(Of course, I'm no expert compared to everyone else on the boards here)

I see what you are referring to but look at the 6 , it is my understanding if it is a true double die it can not have doubling on the top and the bottom. On the 6 it goes all the way around the outside edge so its not going in one direction it is going all the way around, kind of looks like a 6 over a larger 6 and that just isn't possible because they would use the same size of number. So (as I said this is just my understanding) if you see this type of doubling it is either Die Deterioration or Machine Doubling

That's very interesting Brian.
And I just found another one. Same date. Practically identical and from the same roll.
Does that help in determining what what's going on with this cent?

From what I see it looks like an ordinary 1962 Cent. The marks in the field are just die scratches around the date. The marks in the field around LIBERTY look like die flow. The coin looks like an early die maybe early-mid die state. Find two with that same marks from the same roll means they are very close relatives. You often find several in a BU roll that came from the same dies as other coins in the roll. I sometimes watch for markers that mean I can pass over a coin as I found nothing on that die (coins made from the die) and pass it on as nothing on it either. I've been saving the BU ones without marks on the columns as put back coins for that sale. The dinged, scratched and damaged ones go back into circulation.

Thanks everyone for helping me to figure that one out. I also understand what coop means by die flow in LIBERTY and I can now identify what that is. Thank again!

I was looking for a 1995 DDO when I ran into a 1962 Lincoln Cent that looks just like the one I've posted. What I found on the internet is listed as #1-0-11 Could someone check it out and tell me what they think?

THANKS COOP! I'm getting closer to understanding this. I won't say 'AHA, I got it' yet because this is very tricky. For now I can compare my 62 pics with yours (with your permission?] and understand it. It will probably be tricky using this understanding on a different coin. But hey, I'm game. My quest continues, hopefully on another level. Thanks again:)
