Sent to the seller:
---
The "W" [ actually an "A/W") on the obverse is the designer's initials:
Adolph Alexander Weinman
and not a West Point Mintmark.

Just a thought.

Gang, a laugh is a laugh but isn't education what the CCF is about?
I try not to forget that. So I educated the seller.
Many sellers appreciate the information.

OH, NO. Someone found a AW Mercury dime. That was a "Almost WestPoint" coin.

This was only intended for entertainment..nothing more.

Good on you matthewvincent. He has 4 others he's calling W's as well.
The CCF first and foremost is about education...glad you informed him.

Thanks vermontensium. I refrained from sending the seller a link to this topic.
Perhaps that is to be done only when the seller is trying to pull a fast one.*
The prices that he/she is asking are not an indication of fraud, but only of being uninformed.

*Although in the future, 'shame' can be used as a tool.

now...I have a Mercury dime that my uncle carried in his pocket when he was at West Point.
Perhaps...oh, never mind.

Shame is a viable tool but you gotta stare hard in the mirror for a while before deciding to use it. Meanwhile, I think this one used to be a button.

Matthewvincent, great job rising above the tide and rather than just bully the seller with negative humor actually contacting him for educational insight.
