as far as the Landon Large cent effect on Trends prices goes in the higher grades of MS64 red and better .... I believe the negative effect will be zero on most dates. The MS66 coins arent listed in trends ..The number of highest graded 63-67 Landon coins is not that staggering..The real question is how much above trends will a Landon Large cent fetch? The quality of the higher grades should realize a premium..the next few months should tell but it is speculation right now....

***** Buyers beware***** As for one of the sellers I was watching with some items. Take a look at this.

final hammer

http://offer.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.d...047675.l2565

relisted item

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/1893-LANDON-...t_101wt_1363

and finally look at the bidder history with this seller. Can this be reported to ebay, poor leader on the relisted item is being bumped up.

Thanks 2000! It does look somewhat strange. Cannot stand sellers like this one. How can one report this to ebay?

I am not sure of the proper reporting for ebay. I am sure some more experienced ebayers might add their 2 cents! I just wish to share with the coin community so as a group we are not subject to shilling specially on the higher end items.

PS if anyone is the bidder on the 1893 large cent please be careful with the seller.

Definitely using a shill bidder. I think I filed about 40 reports with ebay.

it is very easy to report. Suspicious selling activity.

You can also report listings that have ended.

He did that to me...on a 1859 MS62...spiked the bid with a shill bidding account from $100 to $230. So I returned the coin, while he was furiously refusing.

He gets the coin, relists it and refuses to refund me. ebay had to step in and force the refund.

This con-artist should be reported.

Here is ebay's information how to report shill bidding:

Just the ALL CAPS in the ebay listing is enough to drive me away...

Wow I thought I was pretty knowledgable on ebay, but the bidder history page is new to me, some very interesting stats on it for me. I spent some time looking at bidder stats, as this is new to me. I was surprised to see most bidders on that page had from 2-52 bid retractions in 6 months. I think only 1 person had 0. The person with a score of star 14 had 52 retractions in 6 months. It would be interesting to see how many with the seller?

I thought bid retraction was a rare thing? It seems the experienced bidder is aware of it. I'm glad I learned about bidder history. It shows how active a person is.

The shill bid account is used to push the price to the high bidder's limit...you do that with incremental bids...

if you overshoot, the seller then knows exactly what the high bidder's maximum bid is, so the shill bid account simply retracts the high bid, then use another shill account to put a bid right under the high bid, to make sure the high bidder wins it (but at the highest price possible).

I'm surprised ebay hasn't shut him down yet, I guess not enough ebay customers have complained about being fleeced

that is some excellent research and I agree it provides pretty hard evidence for shill bidding on Landon large cents for sale by a top rated seller.....i guess if no one complains then ebays computer doesn't investigate.......i forgot about the bidder history page and I will look at that more often from now on..the other fact about his coins not noted is that they are presales and wont be available for 20-30 days so youre getting shilled for the future market as well........looks pretty shady to me I have to admit.....

Isn't this ebay seller a dealer out of Calgary? If so I wonder if they're a member of CAND

It's clearly obvious that this person has a set selling point in mind... I have no idea why they just don't make the coin a BIN and then they don't have to be dodgy about sale at all...

In a case like this it wouldn't take much to still get one's price and still maintain integrity!!

@Cassidy - as much as I agree with you about the shadiness of this seller, I have to disagree about the 20-30 days being a "future market", plus don't forget to substract 7 days for the duration of the auction. So it really makes it 13-23 days - not that far into the future

@AuCoinAU - good point, but I doubt he is a coin dealer considering how much time he spent selling Xbox codes.

@coinsarecool...I admire your forgiving attitude but this seller is not only ripping off his buyers ...and .....he is using their money for free for up to the time it takes to receive their coin which adds a few to several days as well......and if you total up the sales it ammounts to a substantial misuse of free money!...I cant see how anyone can apologize for these tactics.....anyways each of us should complain to ebay about this seller and maybe they will investigate because if we close our eyes to stuff like this then we cant blame ebay
