The following is a release from the US Mint

WASHINGTON - The United States Mint will begin accepting orders for the 2014 United States Mint Limited Edition Silver Proof Set (product code LS3) on March 17 at noon Eastern Daylight Time (EDT).

The eight-coin set includes the following 2014 proof quality coins:

One American Eagle One Ounce Silver Proof Coin
Five America the Beautiful Quarters® Program Coins honoring Great Smoky Mountains National Park (Tenn.), Shenandoah National Park (Va.), Arches National Park (Utah), Great Sand Dunes National Park (Colo.), and Everglades National Park (Fla.)
One Kennedy half dollar
One Roosevelt dime

The American Eagle One Ounce Silver Proof Coin is the collector version of the official United States Mint American Eagle Silver Bullion Coin. This coin contains .999 fine silver and bears the "W" mint mark of the United States Mint at West Point. The quarter, half-dollar, and dime are struck in 90 percent silver - generally referred to as "coin silver" - and bear the "S" mint mark of the United States Mint at San Francisco.

The 2014 United States Mint Limited Edition Silver Proof Set is priced at $139.95. Production for this set is limited to 50,000 units, and there is no household order limit. Orders will be accepted at http://catalog.usmint.gov and at 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468), while hearing- and speech-impaired customers with TTY equipment may order at 1-888-321-MINT. Please visit the United States Mint website for information about our shipping options: http://catalog.usmint.gov/customer-...hipping.html

The release of the 2014 United States Mint Limited Edition Silver Proof Set was delayed because of packaging improvements the bureau made based on returns for the 2013 set. The process took longer than expected, and the sets could not be assembled until March. The coins were all produced in 2014.

$2.85 for $140 'Merica!

And to think I paid $150 for $2 2012 ASE's with a mintage of 224,981...I could've gotten another $0.85 for $10 less with a 50k limit. I was robbed.

Okay so I'm new to the whole "Mint Products" vein...

But why are they just selling these 2014 coins now?

I assume you do realize that the ASE in this set will have a mintage of over 800,000 and the quarters over 600,000. Even the half and dimes will be near 470k

Not even close to your 224k coins

Read the last paragraph in the first post in this thread.

I'd sure like to see what the packaging looks like...

If there's any good news it's that these sets are holding their value in the secondary market. At least, for the time being...

Two wishes for the '14 set... (1) I hope the quality control is better. Last year the scratches on the lenses was prolific; and (2) the ability to easily open the lens cover is a terrible idea. The integrity of ever set can be questioned, because it's impossible to validate the authenticity of the individual coins.

@Foxwoods Man,

Absolutely! I was attempting to poke fun @ the mints marketing technique and flagrant pricing.
