Aside from modern coins. Exclude memorial cents and clad coinage (unless they no longer make the denomination). Also, Exclude Susan Bs.

What would you say are the top 10 (in order) easiest sets to complete when you factor money, time and difficulty finding? If all you can think of is say, five or so that's fine too. When I'm done with the Lincolns I want to start on something a bit lighter. Just to have fun. The time and effort into careful scrutiny and planning can be wearing after a while. Lincolns are a bit tougher than I anticipated. It doesn't help that they're the longest running design, ever.

I was thinking about doing Peace dollars next. Those don't seem to bad. And they're big and shiny! You literally get more for your money.

I would say Flying Eagles, American Eagles (Silver) and Franklin Halfs.

I hope this helps...

If you are referring to classic and non-clad sets, that can be a pretty tall order as most sets will have some high dollar keys. The absolute easiest to complete would be Roosevelt dimes 1946-1964, Jefferson nickels 1938-1964 and Franklin half dollars 1948-1963. Washington quarters have the 1932-D&S which will be $100+ coins in good, Walking Liberty halves are easy without 1916-S, 1921, 1921-D, and 1938-D, Buffalo nickels without 1913-D&S TII, Indian Head cents without 1877 and 1909-S, and Standing Liberty quarters without 1916(obviously), 1921, and 1923-S. These are just a few sets that can be 90%+ completed for under $100 a coin.

A Peace dollar set would be my personal recommendation as you can get all but 1928 and 1934-S for under $200 in AU-MS

On set building I am learning about since I am building these sets.
1. 1938 thru 62 nickels. An lot those can be found in fedboxs . But the price of 1950d, 1939d, 1939s, 1938s, 1938d, 51s, wartime silvers. The price of keys cost more than intire set cost already built I am learning . You can buy intire sets alreadly built for an cheaper price. I know I tryed to build 5 sets. Not worth the trouble to build it.
2. 1857 Thur 1909 cents are worth it since intire sets are worth 2000 plus when completed. Trick is to buy the 1909s and 1877 coins at good prices. I paid 700 for both keys but some dealers want 700 alone for the 1877 key. The other coins expensive are 1864l coin, 1866 thru 1878 coins, 1908s key, 1880 thru 1908 can bought in bulk rolls for around 50 to 70 bucks . If I going build another set. I would try to buy serval incomplete sets on ebay cherry pick coins. Its hard to find decent grade coins sometimes before 1879 coins. Lots cleaned out there or ag , rim damage coins, pennies with green spots.

3. 1883 thru 1912 Liberty nickels . They are tough to find coins above vg in that set. Lots of wore out nickels out there. An lot time on ebay these sets go under Greysheat on ebay. Not very good resale value on these sets. I have seen completed sets sell for 495 to 800 all time. Greysheat they worth 1000 plus. You need to watch close to see how much you spend buying 1886, 1884, 1885, 1912s keys in set. Be very careful on this set where dont spend more money than its worth completed buying keys. It may cheaper to buy intire completed sets?

4. Franklin half sets are easy to build . Sometimes in fedboxs from bank you can find halves in boxes. I found 8 coins so far in fedboxs this year. Set cost 175 to 250 already built on ebay. Since I have 9 coins already I was going build this set. I checked prices on the remaining coins I needed online from serval dealers it went over 250 to 350 on buying the remaining coins from dealers. I think it cheaper to buy an intire set on ebay and sell my remaining coins on ebay becides building the set. Set needs 35 coins totol to build it. It may be beter to buy fedbox from bank to check for halves.

My advice to you is check fair market value on ebay and dealer buy prices , prices of coins from serval dealers before you start an set. You can very easy overspend big time than whats the sets are worth when finished. You would lose money big time buying coins from dealers . Try to buy incomplete set or coins from collector's or bulk coins at greysheat prices.

I would say outside of the
1.Jefferson Nickles (1938-1964)
2.Roosevelt Dimes (1946-1964)
3.Franklin Half Dollar
4.Mercury Dime(if you minus the 1916D) if you include that then move it way down on the list
5. Washington Quarters(well I am atleast hoping since this is one of the set I have started)

Twenty Cent pieces.

Vaslin - If you ignore 1884/1885, I agree with 3CN. They are way underappreciated and most of the set is pretty doable relatively quickly.

Well, you KNEW I had to mention 3CN. Besides, it's pretty easy to buy most of the set right from these forums!

How about a BU Type set? Get the best from the different denominations. Or just collect key date/mint marked coins? Those will probably be more valuable with time? Three Cent Silver coins? Pricey in proofs, but most people haven't seen those before.
