Was thinking it'll grade maybe an XF-45 or AU-50 Details? Maybe higher?

Also need some approximate value if I was to say, sell it on ebay or what not.

Phew. That's Snow-1, FS-301, the most dramatic RPD in the entire IHC series. Out of over 100 IHC varieties in the Cherrypicker's Guide, this is one of only 11 rating the highest for both Interest and Liquidity.

You will see a substantial premium for this, in any grade. I am not enough an IHC guy to estimate a specific number.

Sounds good. I'm trying to get my hands on this coin for relatively cheap....so far so good.

Don't want to give away too much.

Eh, if you like that kind of thing...which I do!

Too bad about the scratch and environmental damage.

The Cherrypicker Guide states "Don't pass on this variety in any grade."

If you want a VG-08 PCGS certified version;

It does have a little "green" in between #2 & 3 feathers though.

In other words, you're withholding vital value information from the seller?

XF details/corroded.

See that mark on the obverse?
I metal detect and sometimes, your digging tool hits what your digging.
That's why you always make a plug around center :-)

I'm not sure. I don't collect IHC varieties unless it's the 1888/7 :-)
I'll only give you the grade estimate.
Again, check past auction results for approx. value.

It's available into high grades. Heritage has record of 29 of them up to MS65. As a "righteous" coin, probably in the $500 range; as a Details coin rather less than that. The scratch is pretty prominent, and will hurt. This is a fabulous variety but they're out there.

It would be very hard to guesstimate the value of this one, with the rather grievous deep scratch arcoss the head.
That is probably why the owner is letting it go.

I have bought damaged but otherwise very valuable coins in the past for cheap, but I was never satisfied with them.

Some soul searching here, before you submit your bid.

XF Details. PCGS Price Guide says $375 for a problem free example, and the price guide is usually high. I can't see it selling for over $100. I would even have a tough time bidding $50. But that's just me.

I never quote a price I have not found support for in real world sales. I don't look at "price guides."

The closest clear reference I got to it - sometimes you have to look at the misses to see where the battleship actually is - was an AU Details coin that went for just under $900 18 months ago. They cheapen quickly into lower grades (a VF30 went for $300 last year), but yours has good technical detail. So I dropped that $900 by almost half for one grade level drop, call it $500, and then warned about the seriousness of the scratch, which should (pessimistically) drop that by half.

I should admit that much of this is speculation. There aren't enough of these to form any sort of pricing pattern, but that's also encouraging in that it makes bidding wars likely in an auction. Using Heritage as an example, they have 704 1891's in their archive, but only 29 of these.

For my personal money? I'd throw $77 at that ten times out of ten and walk away chuckling.

I dunno. Haven't found a sale of one in that grade range. These things are rare. All the usual rules are out the door. And they're available in Gem grades, so the deep pockets can find nice ones.

Me, I'd pay $77 for it to flip. I know I could write an auction which would generate a profit.
