JFK Half Dollar Roll Hunters: Silver, Proofs And Other Finds

Razzy, most hunters are between 20 and 40 from what I've seen. I just turned 27 and have a coin collection worth probably $25k.

I would like to find that many!

Sorry not exact numbers as I found a mistake in my spreadsheet and need to correct it - but these numbers are maximum DDOs for each date:

I have looked at:
1. over 1.750 1973-D half dollars and found 3-4 DDOs;
2. over 12,800 1972 half dollars and found 3-4 DDOs;
3. over 4,100 1971-Ds half dollars and found 3-4 IGWT DDOs (the kind with the "IN" doubling can be found about 1 out of every 3 to 4 1971-D halves - these are not hard to find at all);
4. over 1,600 1974-Ds half dollars and found 6-7 DDOs; and
5. over 457 1977-Ds and found exactly 1 DDO.

Percentages:
1972: 3/12800 - 4/12800 (or 1 in every 3200-4,266)
1971-D: 3/4100 - 4/4100 (or 1 in every 1,367-1025)
1973-D: 3/1750-4/1750 (or 1 in every 583-438)
1974-D: 6/1600-7/1600 (or 1 in every 267-229)
1977-D: 1/457

Note these numbers would seem to indicate that the 1977-D is easier to find than the 1973-D, except that the 1973-D halves are more plentiful. It took me over a year to find/go through each of the numbers above.

I've been at it 5 years, and I focus on cherrypicking... so I buy valuable coins for less than they're worth and bam, built in value. I'd say I've probably only spent... $10k on my collection. I'm not real well off, but I've got a decent job and time on my hands to look for stuff like this on a regular basis. I turned pretty much all my 40% half dollars into coins with numismatic value as well. Current plan is to sell when I've got 10-15 rolls and use that money to buy a couple nice 64-65PL Morgans for a MM set I'm going to build. :)

Also 3 proofs 1983S, 2007S & a 1986S immigrant half

I wish I had ordered 6 boxes from this bank instead of 2
no doubt I would have found a lot more. It usually comes in batches.

5 boxes of halves yesterday.

1 40% Bicentennial, a few NIFC, a Toupee Kennedy half, a Hobo half, and a 1982 no FG.

Also found a Buffalo ender.

The number I found online was $1.55 face per pound for copper cents.

A year or so ago I posted on Craigslist to sell 200lbs copper cents I had and have every wack job coming out of the woodwork emailing me their opinion.

I found a guy who believed the media hype talk radio what have you who bought some.

I had to settle for a lower rate for guaranteed future purchases and we settled on $2.70 a pound.

It takes him a week or 2 to round up the cash so I wait until I had 75lbs or so.

At $2.70 a lb minus $1.55 face per pound I estimate $96 profit on 80lbs.
