JFK Half Dollar Roll Hunters: Silver, Proofs And Other Finds

I usually have a patience span between 10 and 30 seconds depending on where I am and who I am dealing with at which point I open my mouth and tell people what I really thing about them or their establishment.

I stopped at the bank in the grocery store I stop at twice a week and they all know me and are glad to get rid of their dollar coins and halves. There are 3 people in front of me and 2 begind me and all 3 windows tied up with people with problems which is obviously holding up the line.

3 minutes go by. I start to think about leaving because 25% of the time they don't have any.

8 minutes go by and now there are 2 people in front of me and 8 people behind me. I am really getting ready to leave.

15 minutes have gone by and I walk up to the window and don't even have to ask because they know what I am there for.

The teller says she has $11.50 in halves. She puts down 3 clad halves and goes over to the other teler and grabs the rest. As she starts to count them out in stacks of 2 I see a silver Kennedy. And then a Franklin. I am almost waiting for her to say "Wait, I am goign to keep these" and not hand them over or something like that. She keeps counting and more and more silver and Franklins are stacked up.

I finally got a teller tray score other than 1 40% or the time a teller said "I only have these 2" and the teller next to her said "They are Silver" and I smiled and said "OK. thank you" and took them and walked away without looking at them so as not to throw up a red flag which is what I always do with any halves and dollar coins. As Kenny Rogers said "You got to know when to hold em . . You never count your money when you're sittin' at the table, There'll be time enough for countin' when the dealing's done"

Ended up with a 1964, 7 Franklins, and 8 40%ers.

Wow Jack, that is one nice teller, wish I could find a teller like that.

No such thing as getting a "Fed Roll" unless you buy a roll of current year Kennedy halves directly from the mint or are lucky enough to have the guy at the next window at the bank trying to cash in a coffee can of coins and Ikes and 4 rolls of US Mint rolled NIFC.



Loomis rolls are white with yellow edges and say Loomis.

Brinks rolls are white with black ends. The few I have gotten do not say brinks on them.



String & Sons sells rolling supplies so your guess is as good as anyones who is actually doing the rolling whether it is the bank branch or the main banks branch or the carrier (Loomis, Guarda, Brinks, Dunbar) or the main coin distributor for your area. Around here every bank gets Loomis rolls regardless of carrier and when you get an S & S box the other banks who use other carriers also get S & S boxes. Same with the rash of brinks boxes I got the last week or so.

Okay I see I get both. Had better luck with the black and white rolls sofar.

Just finished my first 4 boxes to start the new year, and all four were skunks, no silver, only two counterstamped, and eight NIFC. On my way to dump and pick up four more. Not the best way to start the year. Glad to see some of you are having luck.

Now I've got to wait until Friday when my next two boxes should be in. We'll see, this box ordering stuff seems to be way more complicated than it should be.
