Went to the bank for a deposit today. While writing the deposit slip I saw a teller counting coins and heard what sounded like a silver coin hit the counter. I made my deposit and asked if he had any halves. He tells the customer leaving as I walked in had deposited
$11 dollars worth.
Got 4 40% Kennedy's ( 2 67, 68 and 69). That is better than some boxes lately.

I went to my bank a couple weeks ago and saw what looked like silver edges in the tellers tray. I bought the 4 halves in the tray and got one 40% and one 90% (a 1952D Franklin). These are my only two silver halves I have gotten at face value.

Chuckster - Nice haul.

Do you get all 6 boxes from the same bank? I am using 2 branches of the same bank for 3 boxes. I am thinking about using another bank too with a different delivery service. Maybe a Dunbar bank to go along with my current Gaurda.

Thanks!

I split the boxes- I order 2 from one bank and 4 from a different bank each week.

Both banks get the boxes delivered from Guarda ( String & Son Wrappers).

I stopped ordering from a TD bank (Brinks Boxes) as I've never found anything in them.

A total of 6 is just about all I care to handle/dispose of each week besides looking at rolls of Lincolns/ Quarters/Dimes/Dollars etc. It gets to be too much if I go above the 6.

Good luck hunting!

I see a lot of halves, particular from the mid 1990s, that have a circular "dotted line" groove on the obverse, like they have been turned while some machine is gripping them. Does anybody else see this. Do you know what causes that? They seem to me most common in Loomis rolls, but I could be wrong.

Also, I have seen several halves lately that were laquered or plated with some gold looking material. Is anybody else seeing those? Several of the ones I've seen have dates stamped on the obverse -- something like 1971 on the left and 1996 on the right.

Of course there are those with the edges worn down. Casino coins, maybe?

Two boxes down - 1 40%, 2 NIFC, 1 2000 S Proof.

BNACoin- I have been seeing the gold colored halves as well. I am wondering the same things you are.

I looked back at the gold halves. The date on the right is 1960 and on the left, 1985. I dug a little on other forums and apparently some company issued these as a gimmick to commemorate the 25th anniversary of JFK's election.

So....... after a long hiatus from active half searching (3 months or so) I stopped in at my bank today to make a deposit and when they said "Is there anything else we can help you with today?" I just couldn't resist throwing out the old.... "Not unless you have any half dollars or $2 bills...?" question. Sure enough, 1 1967 in $4.50 worth of halves. It's nice to know that Chuckster et al haven't vacuumed up all the silver just yet! I've had such a tough time finding any silver halves in the last 9 months.
