A very productive drive in to work this morning. I took a different route than normal because a teller I check in with from time to time called me yesterday to tell me she had $10 of loose halves and two Ikes. So I stopped by and picked those up. There were 2 40% halves in the group.

I decided to also stop into another bank's branch just a couple of blocks away. I have never had any luck whatsoever at this other bank, even to get a single half, so I rarely stop in. However, I decided to give it a shot anyway. Between two tellers, they had $10 in loose halves, which yielded 4 40% coins. But one of the tellers said she also had 10 rolls. I was skeptical because it sounded like a dump, but I bought them anyway.

I got back to my pickup truck and opened the first roll. From the edges, it was clearly all silver. Next roll, same thing. With the exception of one roll that had 13 straight 1972s, all 10 rolls contained nothing by silver halves. They were all 40% coins (1965-1969), but I am not complaining. They were organized by date, so it must have been "granddaddy's stash" or something like that. It's a little sad to see somebody cash in that many silver halves at face value, but once it's done, I am happy to take them off the bank's hands.

So the total haul for this morning:

$20 in loose halves yielding 6 x 40%
$100 in CWR yielding 187 x 40%

Wow BNA - that is a great haul. I hit a lot of banks, but I have never hit anything close to a score like that. I keep waiting to find a bank with a bunch of rolls in the vault. It seems most banks around here rarely have any.

Thanks, Nobis. I've never had a haul quite like that either. That more than triples my previous record. It will be hard to repeat, but it won't keep me from trying!

Did 3 boxes and sadly got only 1 90%.. I don't even include the NIFC's anymore since I get at least 4/5 in each box. Got another gold plated coin also.

Wells Dylansdad and I did a roadtrip yesterday and here are some of the highlights:
1. Went to a small town, ok very small town and they gladly gave me $27 worth of halves. "There are some really old ones in there, like this one from '67" the teller said.
Quote:

2. Another bank - "You can have this $100 worth of halves but just to let you know we already pulled out the silver" was another famous quote from a teller. Well, silver must have only existed in '64 and prior right? Hmmm, we pulled out several 40%ers.
Quote:

3. Ran across the "We save the halves for our customers" line often. If I would have had the nerve to see I have $650 of these "rare" coins in my vehicle to cash in.
4. Pulled a 1917 walker, with a hole drilled in the middle of it.
Quote:

5. Biggest thrill of the day, $300 worth of bank rolled and customer rolled from a bank. Their was 2 solid and one 3/4 full rolls of silver. First time for either one of us to get that!

Was a great day...

I found a bank with a box and a half of halves ($780) in the vault. I bought them all - was from Brinks boxes.

1 40% (1965 that was extremely shiny but looked like clad on the end - maybe polished?)
5 S proofs (1998, 1999 x 2, 2001 and 2004)

Chuckster says he hates Brinks boxes. This is a limited sample, but I see why...

I went through a brinks box today. Got skunked on US silver. BUT...

Pulled a 1966 Panama Coin, which after some research is struck on a 40% Kennedy planchet, so 1 40% but a cool one so ill give this box a pass...
