A couple months ago I was talking to a teller at the bank about coins (older ones), then I asked about half dollars. She said,"Here's a silver one," and handed it to me. My first silver half dollar! 1964D

yeah, I've had a few of those situations, manuel. 'hey you guys have any halves?' 'yeah I have a few silver ones, here.'
once I asked, 'well then why don't you take it?' and she just shrugged.

Hi, I'm a new person on the forums and just tried JFK roll searching for the first time today. The unbelievable price of silver made it worth my while to search rolls for 40% silver halves even at rates of less than one per roll. It was tough even finding anywhere around me with halves. One bank only had a bag of $500 worth that I just didn't have the paper money at the time to get, and most all the other banks were out, and so I had to settle for a bank that had five rolls. I'm keeping statistics on the dates that I get, so if there's a minimum number of rolls that I should go through before I post any of that let me know. I didn't do too badly for my first time. Got three 40% silvers (two 1969-D, one 1968-D) and a lustrous, mostly nick-free 2006. I also kept some others aside as they were designated as rarer by the second poster on this page ( https://goccf.com/t/22710&whichpage=7#197506 ), though as I'm not really looking for a complete JFK set and all the ones I got are only XF-AU, I'm wondering if they're worth keeping. At fifty cents a piece, keeping coins out of the roll adds up when you're not too selective. If anyone has comments or advice for this starter it's all hugely appreciated. Thanks.

42t I asked the people at the bank if they collected coins. They told me they could care less.

If you are not looking to do a set then just keep all the S mint proofs, and any UNC 2002 and up. Plus anything that is just to stupid good looking.

I got 4 more rolls yesterday....... I only got 1 - 40%..... a 1968. I'm not doing as good as I started out.
One of the rolls I got, all the halves had a hard, black tar like substance on them. I almost hate to turn them back in before cleaning them up a bit.

just picked up a box of halves but no time to search before work. I am doing a 12 hour shift today but when I get home tonight at 11:45 it will be time to search.

I picked up $5 of halves that my local branch had laying around yesterday.
Found a nice yellowy-toned 1966, and a lightly circulated 1988-S. :)
(who's the goof that keeps cashing in all these proof halves?)

Oh, forgot to mention that I found a 1979-D when I scored a few dollars worth of halves last week.
Aren't they supposed to be somewhat uncommon?

Good Luck Deltron!
2 box total today; ZILCH- from a Chase Bank.
Interesting in that they were not the ususal yellow & white String & Son rolls, but brand new cardboard boxes and the rolls were dark yellow/gold and white wrappers with no name on the wrappers, just plain.
Terrible boxes! Hope they didn't switch from String & Son to these new guys or I'll be getting boxes from my other sources only and drop Chase!
