Road tripped yesterday with DylansDad yesterday, a 200 mile road trip. Hit several small town banks. A couple quotes from our small town hits:
1. "If your looking for silver, we already pulled it out." My response was, "I will take $100 from you". Found a '66 (slipped one passed the goalie there)
2. "Yes we have halves, do you have a name?" What in the world does it make if DylansDad has a name or not? Its legal tender!! They continued to write his name down and city where we live. Give me a break....
Our biggest score came from a bag that we purchased, believe there was 23 40% and 1 90%. All in all a good day...

 ! I love the sign. To my surprise there were some banks open today. Stopped by one bank and was told they had $50 and bought them. They continued to tell me that they just sold 2 big bags to the fed just last week.  Told them they could call me when they get a full bag again. They gladly took down my name and number and will call, they hate having them around. Stopped by another bank and got $240 in a coffee can that they had laying in the vault. Is a '52 Franklin and a '68 Kennedy a good start? Dying to dig into it further! |

you bet your sweet arse that's a good start. the fact that they were all in a coffee can, to me, was the signal.

"Do you have a name" - LOL, Like that is going to be the deciding factor on them accepting legal tender.
In a coffee can? They couldn't do that in my area. cant. The banks around here are very tight on policy and whatnot.
Unfortunately my bank was closed today, so my two boxes will have to wait until tomorrow. Hoping I can vanquish my dry spell, gimme just 1 40%er and I'll be happy.

I am a new kid on the block here and in the last week bought $2541 worth of halfs... The first $541 only had 1 1964 and 2 40%'rs and nearly a roll of 2007's. Don't know if the 2007's are worth anything. Also got a 2005...
The next 2k worth was as follows: box 1 2 40%, box 2 40% (oddly half of these were hand rolled and nothing was in those, presearched?), box 3: 2 1964, 8 1967, 11 1968, 1 1969. There were several rolls that were holding more than 1 silver coin. Found a 1983 that looks pretty oddly struck so I held on to it. One (factory) roll was short a coin and I haven't opened it as I will try to get the bank to make up for the missing coin when I pickup the next 4 boxes..
I have another 4 boxes ordered and expected monday and at another bank I ordered 2k more worth but it isn't expected for a week or 2. I started a checking account at a bank for dumping and they welcome the coins no problem, so that issue is solved.
I read a lot of posts here but would appreciate some direction on key dates for the non silver coins.
Thanks and I will post results for the upcoming 4 boxes next week.

I just went through the skunk box ( Kennedy halves) from hell. The box bore a rubber stamp stating in was "Inspected by (Loomis inspector #) Oct. 2, 1998" This is the second such Loomis box that was marked as "Inspected" that I have run across through HUNDREDS of boxes. What the stamps should read is: "Inspected, ALL SILVER OR OTHER COLLECABLES REMOVED, rewrapped and reboxed by (Loomis inspector #) Oct. 2, 1998" The box was AT LEAST 60% bicentennial clads (possibly even 65-70%---I didn't bother to count, obviously). Even worse, my next box has the exact rubber stamping on it, the 3rd one I've ever gotten. I am tempted not to even bother opening it and wasting my time. So, if you should happen to see this stamp on Loomis boxes (String and Sons packaging), be warned you are probably looking at a 100% skunk box. Anyone with similar experiences should post so we can confirm not wasting time on these boxes---- Edited by Ferdyboy

Hopefully I find more stuff worth pulling out. Found a bank today that has plenty of rolls and I bought $100 worth. I guess my beginner's luck of getting three 40%s in five rolls is over, as I didn't find a single silver or post-'02 in ten whole rolls. Two of the rolls I got today were nothing but 1971-Ds, and there wasn't a single date after 1979. 1971-D is quickly becoming my most hated date, with bicentennials not far behind. Guess I'll just cash in the $150 in halves I have on hand and try that bank again. |

Got $240 from local bank. 2 clad proofs, '92 and '95 and my first silver proof. A 2002! Beat to a pulp but its a silver proof....  |
