Going to try getting myself a few rolls of halves tomorrow (only 4 rolls, I don't really have the money to do more).

Who knows, though. I'm looking forward to giving it a real try.

Any tips for first time roll hunting?

get a couple accounts at local banks. Get to know your tellers well. always take your searched rolls elsewhere, somewhere you won't frequently buy coins.

just posted a note about my dad a couple posts ago, it's an hour later now.

Now he has only found 1 silver in about 20 boxes, so he went a half hour out of town to pick up 2 boxes.

Box 1 produced 3 NIFC.
He just called me when he opened box 2. Has at least a dozen enders looking at him including a double Bennie.
first 4 rolls.
5 90%
18 40%.
My good luck post worked. Hope his monster box has arrived. will update his totals when he's done tonight.

Glad to see that silver is still being found. As for me, I am going to have to try a different bank.

When I started, the rolls were yellow and white on my first two boxes and I did well with them. Not long after, the rolls changed color and my silver content went down. Now, in my last eight boxes, it is clear I am not getting into someone elses dumps. I like to see silver or proofs or the like. The same old markings box after box have me moving to another bank if possible.

I plan on asking my head teller to order me two boxes of dimes this coming week. I will also try a different approach of going around to some local banks and asking for halves they may have. In my area, there must be close to 75 bank locations and I just need to get up the courage to walk in and be friendly to the tellers.

So, one of my two week boxes has produced (4) 2004 Ds and (1) 2002.

Five NIFCs and no silver. Maybe I can sell them for enough to add up to a free silver coin when I am done.

As for the second box, I have weighed them and the weights only show the possibility of some 40'ers. More later.

if you find enough NIFC's let me know and we can trade. I have tons of gem silver proofs I could part with.
Rest in Peace

2 more boxes from BOA wrapped in black/white wrappers. Already knew this wouldn't have anything silver. I did get an '86 Immigration commerative. Better than nothing I suppose.

Well, got my four rolls and went through them. One NIFC - 2003-P.

Nothing else of any note. A good $15 face was in 1971 and 1976 coins. Way too many of them around. Did find out that no bank in my area keeps CWRs - they break them, run them through the counter, and then reroll them. Moving down to Iowa soon, though, so might have better luck there.

7 boxes this week - 2 40 %s. In the last 2 weeks, I have searched 15 boxes and found 3 40%s.

This is almost not worth the trouble. Hope everyone has better luck.

Does anyone notice any more luck with one style of coin box versus the other? I got two boxes from two different banks and one was a small square box with a brown stripe on the side, and the other was a larger, rectangular yellow box from "HF String and Sons". I've had two of the yellow boxes and found nothing, but I've had one of these brown boxes, hit 6 40%er's. Anyone?

Got through my first box today.
2010P, 2003P & D, 2001D, 2008P and a gold(?) plated 1990 with a painted front showing Santa on a rooftop.
A few halves were marked and one '76 had a tiny hole drilled though it.
I was cherrypicking for DDO's also - but nada. It was fun anyway.

A lot of very clean uncirculated coins. He was overdue so Congratulations to him and thanks for the roll.
