I'm definitely not a volume hunter - only get a box when I can float a bill afford to pull it out of the bank.

The last 2K halves yielded zilch in silver.

Being in a "broke period," I called in a loan my friend borrowed a few months ago and had him meet me at the downtown area of my city (Lorain, Ohio) near a bank that yielded some great CWR's in the past.

I had him wait outside while I went in to see what they had with my whopping $44 I just acquired (if they had alot was going to recycle in the parking lot because my dump bank is next door - lol - you know you've done it!!).

The one teller only had $4 (8 halves) - of course I took 'em!

Got outside and did a quick rim check......

YES! WOOOOO!

1967! Only 40%, but the rush doesn't change.....

Thank you folks for showing me whats still out there and waiting to be found... you are all truly an inspiration!

Lonz,

Congratulations on the silver. You are right in that the rush is there for one coin or ten.

So I went to deposit the halves I got earlier today. After I walked in to the bank with my two thousand, the teller asked me if ! was looking for silver. I told her probably not anymore after this spell of bad luck. Well, she reached into her drawer and said someone deposited a roll of halves couple of days back if I wanted them. I reluctantly said yeah and took them. A 1969 was the first coin. At least its something. When I went back to give her the 19.50 in halves back, she said the teller next to her had this, 1946D Roosie. Asked if I wanted it. I'm so happy that there are decent people left in this world :-)

Just a story I think might be of interest to some here.

While at my pickup bank today, I took in my 11 silvers and all my "S" proofs I found in my last two boxes.
One of my favorite tellers asked if she could see them so I handed both tubes to her. She immediately knew the silver and said she loved to hear that sound.

Then I showed here some of the "S" proofs. She asked why they were different before seeing one. Once she saw them in her hand, she asked how in the world someone could see a coin like this in change and not save it. She said she would pick it out if she knew it was silver or not.

Then, the next teller wanted to see them. By the time I was through, three tellers saw them with two really liking what they saw and one being polite but neutral.

Granted, some tellers are going to be nice simply because it is their job, but I sensed that two were genuinely interested in what I had found. The third, being in management, was busy and I totally understand what that is like.

Anyway, I was told today I could only order two boxes a week due to vault size. I am simply grateful they order them at all for me and that I get to partake in this wonderful hobby during my time of unemployment.

Kenscott... I did the same thing, but then I noticed the tellers started taking any "unique" coins for themselves. lol

Kenscott - I am also unemployed at the moment. This (and metal detecting) are the best 2 things I've found because they are fun, free, and have the possibility for real gains with no loss (or negligible losses e.g. Gas, bank fees)

Congrats all!

today, I stopped by a total of 6 banks by foot and asked for halves, I was able to gather $35 in CHRs and $60 in opened string rolls =.=. Well, they all turned out to be skunks. I was about to head to a different city north of here to a huge cluster of banks (Im talking 10+ national banks) and many small ones. It takes me 1.5hr by bus to get there, so we'll see how it goes, I will get back to you guys tomorrow and post my finds :)

Oh, I failed to mention that the tellers at my pickup bank already keep anything of interest. So, I was not enlightening them very much except for the fact that "S" mint marks should be kept.

Silver they knew but "S" mint marks they did not.

Silverdollar2011 - I will be interested in seeing what you find. If going by bus, it will be difficult to haul boxes back so I am assuming you will mainly be doing walk-ins for amounts in teller trays or drawers. I need to try to ask more tellers about what is in their tray myself; I just do not remember to do that.

thanks for the good luck wishes guys :)
@kenscott you're right on point, I've never ever bought a full box of halves before lol, one time I remember making 3 trips back and forth from a Wells Fargo and only found 1 40%ner, I mean boxes seem to have a large probability of sucking n skunkin' lol. So I'll probably get $100 in CWR and cycle until I'm satisfied.
I've been fishing in Seatown way too long, that I've exhausted the fish population. am really lucky that the Silver Protection Agency (SPA) isn't after me lol.
ima be sure to get back to you guys asap. Also, the bus that i'll be riding is the same as my ride to the University of Washington, so it'll prolly be a smooth and worry free trip!
There are just HELLA banks in the city up north that I'm going. #soooexcited.

Planning on picking up two boxes today. It took boxes 7 & 8 to find any silver, but its funny how much enthusiasm it revived in me. I have fun even not finding silver, but I guess getting that Ben in the last batch just left me amazed I could still get a non-current design, large silver coin from modern rolls. I know it happens. It just has not happened to me since the 70's.

Had it been a Walker I probably would have gone through the ceiling!

Congrats Lonz and Colles on the silver acquisitions. Kenscott, that was nice of you to show some of your hard earned treasures. I like to do this some times as well. It probably has a negative affect on my silver find but the tellers are curious and deserve to find some silver anyway. I always tell them I'll split the value of the silver with them if they want to sell any silver they find.

Bish, I hate to hear that that things continue to deteriorate in your area. Its tough when you have to pay fees. Glad you were able to remedy you dump situation for now.

Stopped by a bank that has told me in the past that they save halves, but not for me

....the vault teller says "Oh yes... we have some halves." ..

I asked if they were machine rolled or from customers...

she replied "They're all uncirculated from a business"

hmnnn.... that could be good or bad... got to the car to find these...

.... I guess some dealer decided to cash in some inventory... lol

There were only 3 dates/MM's 1994P&D, and 1992P ALL BU coins....
Being in a situation where I can't "afford" to keep more than $10 I called around to all the dealers in the area - no takers... plus the market for these on ebay is VERY soft right now. So I amazed the guy at my dump bank and got the cash back (after taking them out of the plastic tubes and re-rolling in paper - those tubes aren't free.lol)

Anyone here ever see something like that before? They have another 18 rolls... I'm actually thinking of grabbing the rest, if nothing else, at least I get some free half tubes.

edited to ask.... Does anyone know what the letters stand for on the tubes? I'm intrigued... stock numbering/lettering system? Let me know if you can decipher the code...
