SDcoinguy:

Guess it's a East Coast/West Coast difference with whom GARDA contracts out with.

Chase uses GARDA and the boxes are with String & Son yellow and white wrappers here in New Jersey.

Good luck hunting to all!

Chuck.

I just got a 1964 D half dollar from a tellers tray. It feels weird and doesn't have that ring as silver. I just weighed it and got 10.8 grams

I hit it up 5 banks for loose halves this morning. 4 of them had nothing or just a few clads.

The 5th one however had $20 worth. Found 2 1964, and 6 40%ers. Not bad!

Thanks Bernie - it was foggy looking, and I decided - what's it matter, its an impaired proof anyway. So I took a cotton T-shirt and did the unthinkable - I rubbed it

It looks purty now though!

I was surprised it returned to original luster and I don't really see any new scratches.

BTW, I have several in proof sets and since this one is my found-in-circulation set, I figured I'd give it a shot to see what happened.

@TrickyxMix - wow! Nice ratio!

My bank orders 4 boxes a week for me and this way I get two searches a week (only get 2 boxes at time). Last week I was out of town for awhile, and my wonderful head teller automatically orders them for me each week. So I got home and had 8 boxes waiting! It was fun, and a rush, to go through 6 boxes in just a few days. I have one more waiting there for me.

I asked the teller at my bank if she could order me a box and she looked at me like I asked her go jump off a cliff, So I went to the banks and took all they had. I think I'm about to threaten to withdraw my funds and invest in another bank!

coming up on a year's worth of searching on the 1st of the month and I think I can just barely squeeze in the last of a half million coins searched. 19 boxes in 2 1/2 weeks.

good luck to everyone here and keep at it.

In regards to the 1964 half I just got it has no ring at all when fipped compared to my other silver ones. Are there known fakes?

bishftl, quite the work you're putting in! Can you tell us about your dump experiences? I have no problem with picking up boxes and searching, but I start to feel bad when I have to take $500 a pop into the same 4 banks every week. They start asking questions and I'm not even searching much at around 4 boxes per week.

@TrickyxMick - just do what I did - I called around town saying I had some time on my hands and wanted to see if I could find a collection of all the John F Kennedy half dollars that were made. I said I bought a book for them and now was looking for a bank that would order boxes for me each week that I could bring back in and exchange. Thankfully her answer was, "Sure, we can do that - no problem!" And now I have a great new group of friends in the tellers. All of them know me on sight and give a pleasant "Hello!" when I walk in the door.
Granted, I am in a populated area, but a hometown type atmosphere in the "Bible Belt" of PA. So there is a lot of very nice and friendly people here.

@Bishftl - amazing finds - amazing lot of halves to go through! I am looking forward to finding my first magician coin.

i started searching with small amounts maybe 2-4 boxes a week.
distributed dumps to 8 different branches around town until I had a good relationship established and knew everyone by name.
slowly started more boxes per week and with 8 banks to return to, wasn't a problem at all. in fact many tellers offered to start ordering boxes for me from those other branches. I do a straight $10k trade with one bank every couple weeks now as well.
just don't overwhelm them and try to dump on days the courier will be there to pick them up and not clutter the vault.
