I'm typically checking for silver. I've also started a JFK half dollar book I'm trying to fill. Just kind of picking the ones I need and putting in the ones in best shape.

Quick Question: What is an FG?

On the back of the coin you will find a FG between the tail feathers and the leg of the eagle, if it is missing it's a keeper

yvairguy is correct. The "FG" stands for Frank Gasparro. These are the initials of the man who designed the Reverse of the Kennedy half dollar. The initials of Gilroy Roberts, the designer of the Obverse, is just under Kennedy's bust. Directly above "we trust".

I started a Dansco Kennedy Album when I first started sorting through halves. I have completed it, except for the Proofs, entirely with coins from searching. I am still on the lookout for upgrades when I go through a box.

Dave, "NIFC" are coins Not Intended For Circulation. That would include the 1970-D, 1987-D, 1987-P, and any coin from 2002 to present.

Sorry Chuck. I have done the same thing. As least you still have the box to go through. When I started sorting, I dumped 2 boxes on a Saturday afternoon and found out on Monday that I should be looking for a 1974-D DDO.

Go back a read this thread and you will get some great information. Good luck.

I researched some images if DDO's and some of them are really hard to spot. I may not even see some if I came across them.

Also got a nice batch of 56 40% from him for 90% mixed coins including this nice DDO.

Always looking for more BU NIFC's if you're looking to trade for silver. Here's an example of quality I need.
I pay for your shipping cost so it's best if you have at least 10 rolls. I have mostly 40% junk for trade but can work something out for other coins including gem proofs and 90% dime rolls etc.

Check ebay "1974 DDO" and hit the completed listings button. It varies.

The 1971-D that is only doubled on the "IN" (IN GOD) and the "TY" (LIBERTY). Is not the easiest to see without magnification. I think this is Cherry Pickers' FS-101.

The 72, and 74-D are all pretty decent looking. Some magnification helps. Also, the other 71-D where "WE TRUST" is doubled seems to be as almost good as looking as the 74-D and 72 varieties. But I have only seen the 71-D FS-102 on ebay. A good tell-tale sign is to look at the R in TRUST. The curved leg of the R is split up the middle.
