Hello all!! Please grade away, and evaluate this 1795 "flowing hair" half-dime. I will be reintroducing this piece back into the U.S market, and would love to get grade opinions and price valuations. I just have little to no experience with these flowing hairs, and I have heard there were weak strikes, splits etc..We Canadians seem to grade coins much differently, and I am near certain whoever buys it will send it to an American TPG...that being said.. I would just like to make sure I don't misrepresent the piece, and sell it at a fair common ground. But this coin will soon earn itself a ticket back home!! All grades, comments, suggestions welcome!! Thanks to all!!

I'm thinking VG-8 I have little experience grading these and could be wrong. I know there are 10 varieties for the 1795 Half Dime, however I am unable to determine which yours is. Maybe someone here will be able to help you with that. -MV

I sure hope so, thanks for the grade! I would love to find the die combination variety, because there are some rare ones that could dramatically change the value to my knowledge.

It might be variety LM-10? (reverse G -- one outer berry). It's hard to tell because of all the wear.

VG8 to F12 all depending on what it looks like in hand. Nice coin no matter what!
Thanks for offering it to the people of it's home origen! (There is no place like home!)

I would be ecstatic if it could make an F12, it's more in the G6 range IMO. Anyway, thanks to all for the grades!! And don't mention it for selling it back to the U.S... I have recently uncovered quite the U.S hoard, containing some really awesome pieces! Do you all have any idea for prices in the G6 - VG8 range?

Possibly fine, but you'd have to be very lucky. Looks more VG 8 to me, which is pretty good for a coin this age, especially a Half Dime.

Per Breen there are many varieties for this coin. If it were me, I would get it certified by a TPG and pay the extra bucks for variety attribution.

The only issue with me certifying the piece, is I am located in Canada, and really only have access to ICCS and CCCS, and they would likely grade the coin 1-2 grades lower than an American TPG. Also, the U.S buyer would likely cut the coin out of the flip regardless... This service would also be very costly, as this is considered a world coin by our standards, and would have an extra cost factor. PCGS and NGC would cost an arm and a leg to send it from here, plus then I have the risk of customs demanding taxes/terrif to issue an LVS clearance. Also, it would take weeks if not months to turn around, using the USPS.... My idea of a fair sale price... I have asked a couple local dealers & friends of mine about grades, and also posted it here for grading. I will take the average census grade from everyone, and then sell the piece one grade tier lower, just to be safe. Ie. Everyone seems to agree the coin is right around VG8, so unless other info leads me to believe the grade is higher/lower, I would be willing to sell it at roughly 70-80% of G6. Do you all think this would be a fair pricing strategy? And if so, what would be the average G6 price, ballpark of course, with variety a mistery still... Thanks again to all!!

B.t.w... No corrosion whatsoever, just really ugly toning. I almost hope the new owner dips it (shouldn't IMO), just to see how it would turn out. I'd imagine some of the darkening would be burnt in, but I'm almost positive the dotting around the hair would be removed. Who knows...

One last thing... it has significantly rotated dies...I'd say about 30-40'...is this common for pieces of this Era?
