While I love coins, paper bills don't tickle my fancy as well. That is a pretty neat error though! So I know bills are made in sheets. Does that mean the whole sheet has the overprints on the reverse?

That's cool. And with a starting bid of $0.99. Someone really wants this note!

@jdiablo30 - good question. I'd have to think the answer is yes, unless this is the only one that made it past QC.

That is a good question. I passively collect notes (less than 10 pieces total). Maybe someone more knowledgeable will chime in.

The latest bid as of 5pm eastern on Sunday PM is up to $3.3k and 62 bids. While I'm not bidding on it, my finances cut me off a long time ago. (The wife).

At this point I'm just curious to see how much this thing will go for. But I'm to lazy to even start a pool to see where it will end up. I really think that there are more bills out there but since the bill was from 1977 you'd think that they'd have shown up by now, or perhaps someone sitting on a pile waiting to make a killing.

At this point bids have to be in increments of $50 or more, and there is 2 and half days to run on this auction so it just might end up around 10K

Unless the BEP pulled the other defective notes from this sheet there would be 31 other notes with the exact same error out in Currencyland. They may not be in as high a grade as this one but they existed at one time.

Somebody is getting "burned" pretty big time!

Several of these notes have sold recently on Heritage in the 350 to 750$ range.

They are worth nowhere near what this current note is currently selling for on ebay.

Might be some shilling going on.

I could get a nice 1923 'Pokerchip' AND a 1905 'Technicolor' for that money.

Hasn't moved off of 62 bids since 5pm yesterday. Maybe people are reading this thread. Perhaps the high bidder desperately wants someone to outbid them!

I suspect that the current high bidder on this item is the leading shill. His bidding activity has been 100% with this Seller. That raises a huge red flag in my mind. From what I can see there are probably at least two shillers working this item.

Once they have a "fish" bidder in 2nd place the current high bidder will most likely retract his bids (or have the Seller cancel his bids) That will move the 2nd place bidder into first place and bring down the high bid to just above the second shillers "max" bid. It'll probably all happen the day before the auction ends.

Unless the "fish" bidder catches on he is gonna get fried!

Still no further activity, just under 11 hours to go. I agree with the likeliness of this piece being shilled up. It will be interesting to see the final hammer price.

It could be some auto programmed computer bidding by some newby uninformed bidder who placed a ridiculous "max" bid to make sure they win. If so...."ouch" when they discover what they have done!
