I sent some Peace dollars in to PCGS in the late '80s, and now one of my OGHs has the exact same green ring around the coin as this one. Funny this is the first other one I've seen like it. Any idea what caused it? I'm thinking possibly poor storage in my case, but other than that I'm stumped. Thanks, Ed http://www.ebay.com/itm/1924-1-Peac...381250763759?

Possibly just oxidization? It is hard to tell for sure. Or maybe the sun bleached it out? I have no idea.

Interesting. It turned to match the label. That has to be related, right?

Can't say I've seen it before. Nice match for the label though.

Some type of oxidation/degradation of the plastic in the retainer ring. I believe those are very soft.
You might email PCGS and see what they have to say about it. I'm sure they'd be glad to re-holder your coin....(for a "nominal" fee of course!)

I messaged the seller and they said the holder is clear in hand and that their camera did it I thought cameras don't lie...... .....anyway, mine is not clear in hand and the ring is color coordinated with the label

I was gonna say it matches the label color qui5e nicely. Maybe the camera did do it?

There were 2 at the LCS that exact color. Must be common to that holder. No idea what causes it. Would be interesting to trace back the production run that created the problem.

I Actually think the green ring is attractive. makes the silver coin stand out more. also I believe the ring was deliberately made that way on some slabs.

So, are you sure it was not like that when you got it?

I don't have an old photo, sorry for the confusion.
I meant that if I dig out the coin from the safe, I'll take a current pic showing the greenish ring.

The coin collectors organic chemistry based guide to all problems. It's been oxidized!
