I am trying to save up money for a nice older coin at the ANA show but it is hard since I also want to catch up on some other danscos I have, including silver proof State Quarters for my date set album. The question is... Is a silver quarter proof set at $18 a piece a pretty good deal or should I just continue to save my money? Wanted to know if I shouldn't pass this up since on ebay it appears they sell at about $20 each

The five piece ATB silver quarter proof set now sells new for $31.95.

The five piece Statehood silver quarter sets sold from $23.95 to $25.95 ($29.95 for the final six piece DC/Territorial set) during their run.

That being said, I think $18 is a good deal.

At $18 for 5 silver quarters, that's less than current spot price of silver ($3.10 per quarter). I think you have a winner. Buy them all!

I thought it would be about 50 cents over spot for each... Which still isn't a bad deal though... The conundrum though is getting those and having less for the coin I get at the ANA show... But seems like it is leaning towards buy the quarters

Just curious ... what years are you missing

$18 for a 1999 set ... would be a killer price

Oh yeah the only sets he has are 04,05, and 07 so apparently those are common years. I think my LCS guy said around $100 for the whole 1999 set. Lol $18 would be awesome for a 1999! But I am missing all the states but 2008 so far

That may very well be true... I don't think I will ever be able to complete my 7070 ;P at least until I get caught up a little bit with the other types seeing as it is a pretty good deal..

Well, I have been working on my 7070 for over twenty years now. Five holes left. Definitely a marathon, not a sprint.

You will get there.

I agree with Jbuck.

Working on a 7070 can take many years. Even once you get it filled
you might want to upgrade coins , if you bought coins just to fill
holes.

Also do research on the coins you buy. Some coin you see in VG or fine
grades, they will look like a good deal. Take the time and research,
sometimes you can find that same coin in VF/XF for just a little more.

That is the biggest mistake I make. Because I like to fill those holes.

I agree and I guess I am not in a huge hurry (other than just my impatience ;P) to get too far in the 7070 since I would like nicer examples of the coins. I just figured saving for a more expensive coin now and then moving on to the other cheaper items would be a better idea since the more expensive coins seem to get more expensive the longer time goes on. But thanks all for the advice! Guess I need to be able to save for deals when they appear too.

It is not a bad strategy.

I really wish I could fill some of my key date holes with 1990s prices.

Bu with it in mind, you still need to pounce on the really good deals when the come up. This is one of them.

If you want it for your collection, get it! Sounds like a decent deal to me! What shape are the coins in? (besides round !)

Well the picture I saw shows them still in the plastic case with some of that goldish toning. I am just wondering if the prices will go down eventually even more than they have already since I guess these first year quarters used to sell around $100 but now seems to be down in the $70-80 range.

Also keep in mind that the 1999 silver proof set was 9 coins.
