After careful deliberation, I bought a 1964 50 cent piece in proof-like condition and sent it in to a guy in Toronto who advertises at Colonial Acres.
The ring turned out very nice and exactly as illustrated.
As a collector I also wrestled with the idea that I was contributing to the mutilation of Canadian coins.
Fact of the matter is that tons of silver coins get melted every week. At least this one will be on my finger for a long time.
I am considering perhaps getting a silver
Kennedy half or some other decorative coin done in the future. This time however, I won't worry so much about selecting a high grade coin so long as the details are sharp.
