I just bought this as an early Christmas present to myself!

A modern copy (my budget won't run to the real deal) of a Royalist supporters' medal showing Charles I of England.

Bit-Of-A-Cheat-Really,-But-...-Charles-I

References are MI 360/231 (Hawkins Medallic Illustrations), Eimer 167. Originals were probably made (cast) between 1643-44, based on a design by Thomas Rawlins who was employed in making medals and badges for the king's supporters from Oxford.

Normally struck in silver, cheaper copies were believed to have been made for less wealthy supporter in lead and pewter, however as these wore more easily, few such originals now survive.

A fun addition to my collection.

Great portrait. Alex Guiness was a great choice to play him, the profile similarity is amazing.
