Just thought you all might be curious to hear... The survey I took referenced the 1916 issue Mercury dime, Standing Liberty quarter, and Liberty Walking Half all to be made in 2016 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the designs in PLATINUM The dime will be 1/10th ounce, the quarter 1/4 ounce and the half...well you guessed it 1/2 ounce of platinum. They asked about preferences regarding if they should be sold separately, in a three coin set, and if sold individually...how long a delay between each one being issued during the year. They also asked about a total redo on the current Liberty series of Platinum Eagles and were suggesting for the 10th anniversary changing the motifs of the obverse and reverse along with adding a "privy mark" I was all about the 1916 "reissues" in platinum but pretty much poo-pooed the privy mark idea (makes the Mint look like it is chasing Canada). I am sure some others got this survey as well.. I would love to hear your thoughts

I took the same survey. I think the proposed designs that they presented looked pretty cool but by putting them in platinum, they are awfully expensive.

ohh...I should also add...they asked if the 1916 reissues should be in a standard, proof, or "other special finish". I voted for standard finish. Ya ya ya...I know a reverse proof mercury would look cool...but this whole deluge of "reverse proof everything" is making it feel less and less "special". I say we move on from reverse proofs for a while and innovate in some other direction.

There was a bit more talk about this on another website as well. Pay attention mostly to Louis comments near the bottom since he is connected to the mint somehow. Unfortunately gold/platinum are too rich for my wallet. :( Hope they would go with silver but we will see. http://mintnewsblog.com/2015/06/may...on/#comments

I'm surprised that they are going to make them in platinum. They would really limit the amount of collectors who would be able to buy the cons due to the high price of platinum these days, and while platinum is a precious metal, it doesn't seem to get as much attention as gold or silver. I am hoping that they will also decide to release a silver version.

From the replies it appears that they sent out some surveys covering the platinum and some covering the gold option so apparently the final choice hasn't been made yet.

With gold and platinum hovering so close in price, if silver wasn't an option I would vote for platinum as it would evoke a similar look to the original coins

I guess I would be with unholyroller since I can't afford either and wouldn't get them if they weren't in silver, platinum would look more original to me. Just gotta keep our ears open. :)

Well good news bad news. Good news is almost everybody would love these designs done again. But the bad news is not everybody can buy Plat. Silver would have been a better choice of metals.

Interesting. I am a little displeased. This is one survey I have not received. Regardless, this will be another nice product that I cannot afford. Just like the gold Kennedy half dollar last year.

hey...don't be sad...just think, a platinum dime, quarter and half dollar. It will give roll hunters a whole new grail to search for!

I do not think they will be those exact sizes, instead following the current platinum bullion sizes. Tenth Ounce 16.5 mm
Dime 17.9 mm
Nickel 21.2 mm
Quarter Ounce 22.0 mm
Quarter Dollar 24.3 mm
Half Ounce 27.0 mm Okay, the nickel and quarter ounce are close.

Silver coins requires an act of Congress, whereas the Mint has leeway with gold and platinum. Personally I think there are too many special issues of this and that as it is, and then when the special finishes are included--oy! I kinda wish we were back in 1983 when there was just five coins the look forward to. Talk about killing the golden goose.

I got the email a few days ago but blew it off until I read this thread. Mine was Platinum orientated. I kept it real. I said go with silver and called them out on poor QC and hazed MOD proofs. If they want to ask $1500 for a coin with poor QC no way am I going to get on board. Even at $50 for a poor QC silver coin I am not going to accept it. I called them out on the Gold Kennedy ANA branch mint rioters and homeless straw buyers as well. Waiting for confirmation of my FREE 2016 Platinum Eagle for participating

Quote: I kinda wish we were back in 1983 when there was just five coins the look forward to I'm pretty sure the US Mint issued 19 coins in 1983. All heck broke loose in 1984 though.
