On the advise of John1, I have done some homework on the Blakesley effect. I would think from what I read this would qualify. Maybe ,maybe not.

I'm not 100% convinced this is a clip, normally I see these are cut even from one face to the other, your looks like its angled? unfortunately there is a lot of wear on the coin, which masks a lot of the tell-tale signs. I don't see the Blakesley effect here either (again too much wear)

No V nickels were made in 1918. Can't tell what date yours is from the photos, but they stopped minting them in 1912.

Most likely a 1912. I thought I was seeing '13, chances of that are astronomical!

Clip is questionable. Maybe a hit or grinding from years past. The angle of it is what I question.

Would like to see a close up of the date to confirm what it is. But so much wear may not help. Rookies thoughts, Thanks, Doug.

There are only two date possibilities- 1910 or 1912 since the last digit is too wide to be a 1. However, your coin is just damaged, not clipped. Pictured below is a V nickel that was clipped not once, but three times-

Actually I think it is possible that it is a 1913. One guy carried one in his pocket as a conversation piece for years.

According to the December 1953 issue of The Numismatic Scrapbook Magazine, an early owner of the entire set of 1913 Liberty Head specimens had a special plush leatherbound case made for them -- with six coin holes in it!

I agree that it is most likely a 1910 or 1912.

That guy, along with highly respected experts of the time thought it to be a fake

Kakaratt77. What makes you think it is 1913? It could have been an altered date at one point or a 1912 or 1910.

i don't think it's a 13, but it doesn't look like 10 or 12, so either it's fake, damaged or the pic is bad.

Do an acid treatment and try to revive some of the date, haha. Then we'll know.

Anyways, back to the initial question. I'd argue that this is indeed PMD. I had a coin similar to yours, except a Jefferson nickel that had the similar effect.

Sorry about the delay in response, working out of town. I have had several people look at this coin in hand and no one can positively confirm the date.
