on Friday evening I went to one of my pick up banks, and while buying my regular quarters and dimes, I asked the teller if they had any silver dollars or 50 cent pieces.

the teller was younger and looked at me cock-eyed as many do when asking this question.

when he went and got my coins, they needed to go into the vault to get my dimes, and the branch manager was the guy who helped him, I repeated my question to him, and his response was "how many you want"?

my standard response is I will take all of them (that way I can sort through later).

he rebukes and says we have like $1000 in silver dollars/ 50 cent pieces. I was like

Now I was sure I had asked before, as is my SOP, but the manager says next is even more interesting.

"I have been here over 3 years, and I have not even opened these bags"

He explained that there are 2 very large bags of coins, and they were hard to get to, the bank was only open till 6, and it was after 5pm, and I needed to get to my dump bank, so I reluctantly made an appointment for this Friday to see the coins.

he did grab a few of the coins and showed me and they were all voyagers (post 67) so I know they are not all silver, but still the possibilities are high that there is a few in there.

I think this week is going to pass by soooo slowwwwly

Had to check your location... almost thought you went to my dump bank... as I just dropped a whole bunch of "nickle dollars" off...

Good luck with the search hope you find better luck with your dollars than I did with mine!

Cheers!

I think someone is buying up my dumps, and returning them to one of my pick up banks. which is a bit weird because they are several cities away from each other and a river crossing. however when the bank manager said the bag had not been touched in several years I would imagine there are some goodies in there.

at a different branch of the same bank, I found a dansco book of Canadian halfs, with 36 silver coins in it, several silver dollars as well as silver quarters, I could not believe the score I got from them.

I may be upselling these bags in my head, but I have bought some large sums of dollars from some banks and found 3 or 4 silver coins in them!

question, is it Friday yet?

Just an update, and hopefully a good omen of what I will find on Friday.

I had to go to the doc this morning, and when I was waiting for my prescription, I went into a different branch of this pickup bank.

after getting my quarters and dimes, I asked about silver dollars/fifty cents and the teller said she had some, went and go them, $42 worth, and then she asked another teller if she had some, and score, another $65 worth.

close glance there was nothing spectacular, and then the rim of this little gem got the attention it so desperately wanted....

I am trying to figure out which set this was from, and if it is sterling or 80% any help?

oh, and check out the goatee on lizzy!

WOW! Funny, its been years since I was able to get to a bank up there. But all the time growing up in the 70s, when able to I would get across the border and ask for dollar coins and halves. There were many times I came back with nothing. They were very hard to acquire.
I remember one time while on a trip to Nova Scotia we stopped at a bank and the teller had no idea Canada ever made halves!
