Last week I went to visit my 92 year old mother. In an effort to clean out her house she brought out a box of old momentos and asked me to go through it with her and take anything that was mine.

Among the old programs and letters was this card that contained a Christmas gift to me from my paternal grandparents. My grandfather died in 1964, so the card was from 1963 or earlier. (I was born in 1956)

The presents are long gone, but in the residue of the glue on the card you can see the impressions of eight well-worn Mercury dimes.

Seeing this was a real treat for a long-time collector like I am! Too bad I spent them fifty years ago.

And they probably reside in someones collection. Or in someones phone or computer. Man, that card must of been a real treat!

that's a real touching story and its cool to have it back after being forgotten for years. if you're like me you must have teared up at least a little when you opened it...

What are great story. Seeing those Mercury dime impressions is really. It's as if the past still continues to echo that one moment in time. Thanks for sharing.
