I have a freind that has a 1928 Peace dollar in G6 or so and he was asking $150.00 and I thought he was nuts...

Until, I looked at my old Red Book and found that it has low mintage, is it really worth that much?

How hard are they to find?

Numismedia has the G-4 1928 Peace dollar at $242 right now so if his is problem-free that is a reasonable price.

Scan ebay's Completed Auctions and see what they are selling for.
That's your best guide.

A coin is worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. The 28 Peace dollar is a coin that everyone wants. I'd be happy to pay $150 for one.

I got one in AU condition for about $325 because I buy coins in groups. This is one way to get better deals from brokers and LCS's. Buy in groups. Don't just buy one coin at a time and become a "regular" then you get discounts. The coin dealers get these coins at about half price. They have to get them cheap to make a living. If you get you a 20%-30% discount they still make money off you in the long run. They make the real money "buying" coins at deep discounts and then trying to sell them at retail.

Yep...that is THE key date for the Peace dollar sets, along with the high relief 1921.

An ICG slabbed G4 recently sold on ebay for $144, so $150 asking price is fair for a problem free eample, but I'd try and negotiate fur shure

If the coin has no problems of any kind that price hits the center of average sale price in Good. Not a bargain. An offer of $125 wouldn't be offensive.

Just wanted to let the members know, I asked him if he wanted to sell it (It actually is more like G4) and he said he wanted to get rid of it for $80 ...so, I bought it.

My second Peace dollar!

While the lowest mintage, they are still readily available and in some high grades. Anything in MS is going to cost $700-$1000++ and it goes down from there. Even an "album completer" in F-VF is still going to cost $200-$300. While I don't think that there is a big collector market for the G grades, there are still enough people that would "just like to have one" even if it is a G-4.

You did very well at $80.

$80 is a great price.

It should be said, need to make sure that it really is
a 1928.

There are a lot of 1928 S Peace dollars with the mint
mark removed.
