I have some 1959-1982 Copper Cents. Do they sell well on ebay, Craigslist, or anywhere else?

Short answer? No. Seems like everyone is advising to just dump them back into circulation.

However, I personally advocate for saving them since I feel like they will probably discontinue the cent within the next ten years and may create a small time period of demand for copper cents afterwords driven by non-collectors buying them up. If you wish to sell now then I would think your best bet would be put them on craigslist for copper value and see if anyone is interested in them that's within a 25 mile or so radius from you. Should make about 25 bucks after gas for every 6000 cents you have.

Put them in a pickle jar and use as a doorstop. That's what I do.

Someday I hope to give them to a kid starting out a cent collection to sort through.

I am surprised that folks are making money off of their CRH copper cents. I suppose if you can get it...get it. I guess there are folks out there not willing to pull the coppers for themselves and will pay, some times decent money, to have someone else do it.

It's hard to get rid of them since copper dropped $1 a pound almost a year ago and hasn't rebounded.

I'm still holding my 500lbs from CRH until I get a good offer.
Rest in Peace

And wait years before you get an offer. Or dump them now and use the money to buy coins of your liking.

If the cent is ever discontinued I can see bags of 95% copper cents trading for their intrinsic value plus a small premium much like 90% silver. Would it be worth hoarding large amounts of these cents for years in that eventuality? No. Is it worth paying a premium for them now? Definitely not. Dump them and use the money to buy coins which will fill holes in your collection or buy 90%/999 silver.

1. Take to a bank and put in a savings account.
2. Take to a metal recycler that is dishonest and will melt them for Copper price.
3. Give out on Hallloween instead of candy
4. Send to me.
5. Put on ebay as UNSEARCHED and then give all the dates.
6. Keep in a jar and fill with Sulfuric Acid. Copper Sulfate makes really pretty crystals.

I guess I just don't see the point of turning in a copper hoard like this for face value. If you spent a decent amount of time looking for them and sorting them, why not just hang onto them? Yes you may never get much for them but odds are you just have a few hundred dollars max tied up in it. IMO the potential benefit outweighs having a little bit of money tied up (especially if you spent a lot of time sorting through coins to get them). It's inevitable that they will discontinue to penny someday.. now if the value goes up much is a whole other story but why not just hang on and find out (unless of course you really need the money). Just my opinion on the matter.. good luck with whatever you do!

I agree. As I have said before, hoarding 95% copper cents is a long term play.

I'm of the hoarding opinion...then again, I probably only have 50-60 pounds or so of copper. Not worth the gas to dump them at this point.

So much for all the years of going through rolls and saving the copper. The only good thing; got them at face value.

I may have to call Brinks, and see if they will make a stop by the house.
