There sure are lot of errors on the small head design, perhaps that's why they abandoned the technology. To date I have found many from searching circulating coins.
Here's some of what I've found so far, but is by no means completed yet.

Has partially filled die on the 2 and 0 reverse. Shows on the the top and bottom of 2 and both sides and top of 0.

Has quite a large fill on the back of the platypus head and water line. Also on the top of the loop on the 2 reverse.

Very weakly struck hairlines obv.

Has very strong letter doubling AUSTralia

Has Cud under chin and base of neck as well as letter doubling obv.

Has Cuds under chin, neck, along the top of queens hair, and good letter doubling obv.

Has strong double lettering obverse and nice dc from low austALIA going up through top of last A to the rim.

Has doubling to most of the lettering obverse and base of the queens neck
Has a good Cud at the back of the queens head.

Has many little dotted Cuds around inside of rim on the right side obverse.

Just inside rim Has dots/cuds most of obverse.

Strong doubling to queens nose..

Has a small Cud on top of queens hair and doubled platty mouth.

Has Cud top and back of queens hair.

Has doubling chin, neck, hair and platypus mouth.

HAS LARGE BLOB on top of the 2 reverse.

Has 4 little Dots/dashes above SD reverse.

Very weak hairlines and back half of queens crown obverse.

Mind you, a lot of these are also found on 2001 and later traditional design 20 cents also.

I pulled 2 Large Heads out of $100/20c today.

In regards to the Small Head Errors, I have a 2004 Small head that the Obverse of it is COVERED with Cud's, as well as the fact the plachet seems to be delaminating!

Im no expert on these coins, but from what I can tell, looking at this particular coin at least, the plachet (obverse) seems to be some manner of core that is coated in Cupro-Nickel (as layers of the coin have fallen off, revealing a dull core). The Reverse looks like a TOTALLY different coin, as if the plating is not complete. It has two different types of discolouration, one being a rust looking discolouration and the other is black.

Before ppl ask, this is the SAME coin! The difference in finish on either side is extraordinary; its like the Obverse is the current Cupro-Nickel finish, while the Reverse looks and feels like the finish on a 1970's 20c. As for the Obverse, massive numbers of what seem to be Cuds or delaminations (or both), as you can well see.

I don't know what to say, part of the Obv appears to have peeled and the rev looks like its going rusty as though it's got steel in it? Beats me.

Nancyc: exactly. The Obv seems to be plated with Cu/Ni or something (has a similiar finish to every other 2004 Ive seen) onto some sort of core; the material around the area's that are 'peeling' is VERY loose - and SHARP!! You can notice that the 'shinny layer' peeling away is NOT taking the impression with it and leaving a smooth surface (which suggests to me it is in fact some manner of plating and not just 'layers' of metal created during the rolling process, which would leave a much rougher surface that would not retain as much of the impression).

The Rev is TOTALLY different, with a degree of CORROSION!

All I can think of is, the material used for the plachet was contaminated at some stage. Also, ARE the modern Cu/Ni coins plated in some way? NEW coins these days seem to have a much more 'shinny', mirror-like lustre when UNC.

Either way, its a rather unique looking 20c!

Wouldn't be a forgery would it? Though it doesn't make 'cents' to do it to 20c.

Well Jeff, I guess so. Well within reason. I haven't bid much at all for the ebay coins, just trying to pick up some very cheap. I have a few that I have found myself and therefore haven't bought any from elsewhere yet. Anybody who wants to get rid of any and/or do a swap let me know! I am chasing a few coins at the moment including large heads.
