I don't think this is a genuine mint error, it almost had to be done on purpose.
What does the mint use nails for anyway?

Rest in Peace

Could have very well been manipulated. I'm leaning towards that but the grade was hilarious. A consensus on a nail

Seems kind of weird that PCGS would even slab this.

I think bobby posted this in a thread a few months ago. I still get a chuckle from it but not a 9k chuckle that's for sure
Rest in Peace

Interesting!

To me it's a bolt. See the second image: The edge is ribbed and the top has a polygonal shape for a socket. Why would a nail need one of those. :( Sorry, too picky.

They slabbed it because it is real. Jon Sullivan know what he is doing with errors.

coop: not questioning validity, but I am questioning why the 9K price.

Do you honestly feel this Coin/Nail is worth 9K?

"CAVEAT EMPTOR" (IMHO!)

I don't buy anything over $100 that I need to slab. So your asking the wrong person as to price value. Probably the only one I've heard of. I seen Struck on springs, washers, but this is the first nail. (probably a mint assisted error. The collar had to be removed to create this) Note the head if the nail is still straight.

It is worth what people are willing to pay for it. If someone picks it up at that price, It is worth that much, unless no one else wants to pay that much.

There is a second that I've seen owned and I believe sold by Fred Weinberg (unless this is the one now slabbed).
Coop, is this considered debris?
I'm curious where nails are in the Mint.

This is just ridiculous, PCGS will do anything for money. What's next? An empty slab that says "MS-66: Coin Struck on Air".
