I just made a rare purchase on ebay. These are the sellers pics. Just curious where Community members come down on grade, variety, problems etc. I will not attempt to slab this coin, but would be curious whether or not it would attain problem free status in a TPG? I was tired of seeing the hole in the 1811 slot. Now I need the 1811/0 and I'll be finished (for now) with the Classic Head series.

I'd grade it VG-10, and it doesn't appear to have any surface issues, so I don't see why it wouldn't grade problem free. Its hard to find early large cents such as this that don't have some sort of corrosion.

It appears to have nice smooth surfaces and fields with no hint of corrosion, which in and of itself is tough to find for this date. Nice circulation cameo, no hint of cleaning or dipping. I'd say a TPG would go with a no problem VG-10. Aren't you glad you waited for a nice one?

Thanks for the replies. Keep em coming. I thought it looked like a problem free coin. That's saying a lot for this date. Very few examples of a problem free coin in any grade for 1811. I hope it looks as good or better in hand when I get it. My LCSs haven't been able to come up with one in years. I hate buying on ebay but I felt I was forced to if I wanted one of these. Anyone know the variety?

Lovely coin At least VG08, possibly VG10. If I'm not mistaken there is only one choice, S-287.

A nice coin which I grade VG8. The obverse appears to be smooth and devoid of any problems. The reverse is more difficult for me to judge, at least from the picture. It appears to show some micro porosity or roughness, but it could just be the picture. All in all I think it would yield at least a net VG7, and a worthy example of a date which more often than not is just awful in appearance.

Yes, I realized there was only one choice for 1811 (other than the overdate) right after I posted this. Thanks!

I think there is too much wear for a VG-10...
VG-8.

I agree with the VG-8 grade and that's what I will assign it. I will try to post pics when I get it in hand. The sellers pics will likely be better than mine though since I'm shooting with a phone.
