LetsGoOs W/o having a more focused and larger close-up of the mm it appears that this alleged mm is nothing more than the results of someone lightly tapping on a nail using a hammer.

I believe the coresponding spot on the Rev would be around the middle or bottom rung of the E in America there are some spots on the M but it doesn't look like it's anywhere close to the MM location

Very interesting looking coin. I am looking forward to seeing our expert's opinions on this.

Nail theory sounds good to me. Sharper images would allow folks to be more definitive. Good luck.

Wished it was a real mintmark. THAT would be earth shattering. But....
1). The "mint mark" is positioned too high. 2). The "mint mark" shape is not in line with the known "D" used on 1964 or 1968 coins.. It looks more like a stubby "o". 3). If a die had actually been punched with a mint mark and used, more likely than not more coins would have been manufactured and others would have shown up within months of being released. Not some 50 years after the fact.
My conclusion is post mint damage enhanced by circulation wear. As always, I'm open to other opinions.

I can take some with the microscope but I thought these came out pretty clear enough to at least see that there are no indentations on the reverse side anywhere near the raised bump on obverse so if it's from a nail they did it without denting the reverse side or they patched it I'll dig out the ms cope and take closer pictures and see what u think

If it had been hit with a nail or something like that, I would expect to see a pressure ridge very much like what I can make out on this coin. A clear, close up photo would be most helpful!
