Congrats on this great find. Its always exciting to finally see the right thing in the magnifying glass

Is there an estimated mintage on the attached 6?

I am unsure of mintages, there were 36+ million minted of 1996, mostly high 6 and regular 6. I had looked at about 5 or 6 thousand 1996's looking for this one (for 4 years, the 13K is only this years search totals)

I know that there are not many available for sale, only 2 on ebay now. I am not sure what mine would grade out to, but it is as good as the one asking $230 (IMO)

ace_ftw, would you enlighten me on what exactly it is I'm looking at? I don't know much about Candian varieties/errors. Thanks and congrats on whatever it is!

I "finished" my Canada nickel set up to the early 90s and then let things lay (although I did get the 2005 silver commemorative nickel). After consolidating and finishing up some US sets I am hoping to update the nickels. Which means I will need one of these :)

This is called a 1996 attached 6, this year there was a regular (or low 6) and a high 6 (almost touching the D in Canada) and the Attached 6. being the most rare of the 3, as mentioned I am unsure of mintages, and I don't think anyone has an exact figure, but of the 30+million 1996 nickels minted, I would gather less than 1% are attached 6's.

If someone else has an actual figure or better numbers of what was minted I would like to know.

Sorry the die chip is attaching the 6 to the D, and would I guess be classified as an error, not a variety (I might be wrong with this assumption)
