My Thanks to Coop for helping me analyze a 1989-P Roosevelt dime potential die clash in my earlier post. He responded with some fabulous die clash overlays of both the obverse and reverse making them a great analytical tool. My question is are these graphics available somewhere to download for the major denominations? They should be a staple in the error coin tool kit! Thanks again Coop!

When making overlays, I look for very large images. (1,000-3,000 wide) I get these from the U.S. Mint website. Look at the bottom area of the site and choose "Coin Images".

These are handy when using them with Photoshop.

Another source I use is the HeritageCoins.com site. (You will probably be asked to register to get these) But they are handy for high grade older coins.

I start off with an obverse and a reverse. Make duplicates of each.
Edit them to the size you want. (I usually use 1000X1000 size for single images, 500 each for the two coins which makes a total of 1000 wide) Then take the copies and rotate them 180 degrees. Then flip them horizontal. Then I reduce opacity to 50% then slide them over the opposite coins Then you have your four images to make two overlays. Sometimes I added a bit of color to them other times I don't.

Coop....as a new member to the forum I cannot express my appreciation enough for the thoughtful hand-holding education you provide for those like me and I'm sure many others. As always you have gone above and beyond in explaining and caring about this hobby and in particular this community. My continued Thanks as always...... :)

The photoshop program is great for editing. I've been working with it for 15 years+. I'm still finding new uses for it. I figure I've edited Well over 50,000 images with it. (probably a lot more) But getting started is the hardest part. So when you get program, ask questions. (The version I use is the 5.5 Education version. I've seen these for sometimes less than $25 and up. When they are listed too cheap I buy a few to re-sale.
