This past year I decided to see how far I could get completing a set of Jefferson nickels (see footer for progress to date). I've seen other CCF members create challenges/projects for themselves and others and wondered if other folks here do something similar but may elect to keep it private. I'm starting to consider what I might do for 2016 and figured others might be doing the same. Do you have coin project for 2016? Building a set? Organizing a hoard? Maybe thinning out the herd? I'm curious to hear what you might be undertaking in the coming new year.

I haven't given it a thought but I'm glad you brought it up. I really do believe in setting goals.
I am always behind on organizing and I need to make notes on values for whoever inherits my mess so I guess I will work on that.
As for what I intend to buy ... not sure about that at all.

A complete inventory. Same goal I had last year, just haven't gotten around to it yet, so at this point I may as well wait till next year

I'm still working on my 2015 goals -- 2.5 months to go! Congrats on the milestone goal with your nickels. I'm doing the same but I only get about 4 boxes a year, so it's going to be a much slower process for me.

Hi folks - thanks for looking!
Buddy - I think that this is a good goal especially combined with doing inventory. I started to organize a bit this year, but I've plenty to do yet. Good luck on developing the roadmap for the family!
Debra - I had to chuckle!! This past year I was bidding on the LCS coin board on coins I already had. I couldn't remember what I had and what I needed so Inventory is a big deal in my world evidently. Luckily I didn't have the highest bid on one of the two.
Celtic - Thanks! I'm curious to see how far I'll get by the end of the year, but I'm guessing that somewhere near 96% will be the figure. I'll do a year-end-wrap-up to finalize the project. The interesting thing here is something Buddy brings up: goal setting. I wasn't sure what number to set for myself at the start of the year. 90% felt good but that number can be hit in 3 boxes or less if an individual isn't very fussy about condition. I was, so it took a few more boxes to get to the target. But hopefully folks out there thinking about starting a Jefferson collection can take something useful away. With patience and a steady effort, the album can be completed. And for me, it is never a race. I can appreciate a goal and a schedule to help increase focus, but it's all relative. Good luck on your project; I hope it comes out sweet!

For me this is an easy one. I just have to finish my all FSB Mercury dime Album. Now only 3 left to go.

Carl - I'm embarrassed to mention how far behind I am on that set. Good luck on getting that done. On the topic, one neat idea was Carnold's Buffalo set. The challenge to be on/under budget with a mix of common/nickel-ized/gifted items made for an interesting thread. I'd love to see a few members working a project/challenge. Some short in duration - others spanning 2016. Could be interesting...

I have a couple of goals for 2016, finish the date collection part of my Kennedy Set, add a few Half Dimes to my Half Dime date collection, make it to the World Fair of Money, and further my skills in die variety identification/collecting.

Hmmmmm...you're going to miss Black Friday this year...or just attack it from the other side? Have fun at the show and don't forget to show off your new pieces should you score a find or two!

2015 Current Goal: Buy a gold coin. Might have a chance, actually, as I usually receive $100 for my birthday and $150 for christmas... 2016 Goal(s): Start and finish a second Wheat cent collection (minus key and semi key dates) from circulation, go to the ANA World's Fair of Money, buy a 7070 (SO expensive!), and attend an ANA summer seminar. Wait, I'm forgetting writing and publishing an article in The Numismatist. SOO MUCH

Child - you're young yet and have the energy...and with some financing, you can get plenty of done in 2016. I was thinking about starting another set of Lincolns from CRH, but it takes me so long to get through a single box that at best, I would get through around 20 boxes in a year. I suspect that would only yield me around 300 or so LWCs, so the early books would be rather scarce if you know what I mean...not much Wheat! But perhaps an AU/BU set of Memorials and Shields with the 2009s sprinkled in? Hmmmmm....might give that some thought.

You might want to look around for some odd jobs to make some extra cash :) I use to make a killing shoveling snow when I was younger. My parents were normally willing to pay me to do some extra chores outside of what I'm normally asked to do as well
